Mexican strat isn't really very good. The american one is class though. £80 off that isn't bad

There must be some good and bad, My 2003 60th Anniversary MIM is as good as my mates 2010 MIA - and that's his opinion.

There isn't anything wrong with MIM Strats, for the money they are very good value.

They're okay. I wouldn't personally consider this price anything special for a mexican strat, though. They're often this price in privately owned stores, at least here in Scotland.

If you're interested in a strat at all, it's likely worth saving your money and buying a US made one.

Also, if you can help it, never buy a guitar blind. It lets the store choose which ones to send, naturally that goes from worst to best in quality.

There's very little difference between the MIA and MIM. The main one is that they use higher quality hardware such as pots and pick-ups, build quality wise, barely anything in it. I've got a MIM and it's very nice.

Same here. Bang for buck these are a good deal.

Any deals on left-handed strats about?

Sunburst Tele looks lovely too!

If you want a decent electric guitar, this model is as good as many 7 better than most in that price range. How good it sounds is entirely down to the skill of the guitarist. My daughter has had this model for at least 10 years as a decent electric to noodle on & it has been reliable, playable & sounds fine. Because she is a totally awesome guitarist, she can make any guitar 'weep'- it's all down to the artiste.....
If you feel that you want one & you're happy with the price, don't procrastinate - go ahead, you won't be disappointed.
Happy playing all you guitarists out there, keep delighting us.

I've never really understood why lefties don't just learn to play right handed. When you first pick up a guitar you're equally rubbish with both hands. They don't have left handed pianos.

...because it ain't 'natural' and therefore you'll never be quite as good as you would have been had you stuck out for a leftie!

i'm a lefty that learn righty playing. Personally I think its did slow down my learning a lot

The lefty in the mini band plays a righty strung normally...check him in the link 3 mins into the vid. The girl is pretty good too (she does a good cover of stratosphere on utube)....bear in mind theyre only about 8/9 years!!

You'll be better at fretting than a rightie but not quite as good at picking. It's swings and roundabouts.

according to your logic right handed people should learn left handed

It never did Jimi Hendrix any harm being left handed with a re-strung right handed guitar. I understand lefties when they say it feels more natural to play with their left. I cannot play left handed at all. I can't even sign my signature left handed.

I remember many years ago a friend who was left handed, he just turned his right handed guitar upside down.

It's easy for people to say that Hendrix played his upside down. The fact remains that it's inconvenient to have volume knobs on the top. You often catch them whilst strumming rhythmic parts. Hendrix compensated by having a bizarre picking technique, at least from what I've seen of his footage.

Yeh I could well understand the volume/tone knobs and pick-up switch getting in the way.

Mexican Strats are okay but when I replaced mine with a Strat Plus it was night and day really and it should have been as it was about 80% more expensive.
One enormous difference was the pickups as I felt I had 5 very useable and distinct sounds with the Plus which I didn’t get with my MIM.
With the Plus I could just plug it into my Fender Pro Jnr and get that beautiful Fender tone without any need for pedals.

That spoilt me for non premium guitars and have since had some good deals on eBay when collecting in person to confirm the quality.
A lovely G&L Legacy USA Deluxe for ~£500 and a Carvin DC135T Custom for ~£425.
Both lovely guitars with decent hard cases which when added to the cost of a MIM would make it around £425.
Voted this hot just not for me.
Nearly lost it and bid on a Custom Shop Masterbuilt Strat this week as it had no bids and had a starting price of £2k. It was a LTD edition Proto of the Hendrix Strat with a reverse headstock. Sanity prevailed for once.

If you are on a budget, check out the Squier Classic Vibe series. REALLY nice for the money.
