I have a set like these from Amazon which stated they were low wattage LED bulbs which when they arrived did not come with a 12v transformer as I expected them to. It's full on mains voltage running through the lightest diameter cabling. They are mounted on the fence out of reach of children and adults but alas a squirrel chewed through the cable and was electrocuted. His little body found in the raised flower bed the next day! How these can be sold in the UK amazes me. The other downside is mine fill with condensation and 3 bulbs have shorted out once the water came in contact with the led. I would not buy this type again, read the descriptions of those on offer and try and make sure they come with a Stepdown transformer for low voltage bulbs and wiring.

Problem is 12V transformer goes and you lose the entire string unless you fit a new one, which most people won't. Transformer goes in the bulb and you just fit a new bulb.

The wiring gauge doesn't matter. Like a lamp, it's going to be handling almost no current.

Realistically these should last longer, unless you get a suicidal squirrel or start poking your hands into the sockets, which is a shock risk on indoor 230V lights anyway. I always avoid the 12V ones because they always put on the smallest, cheapest transformer they get which runs hot the entire time and fails prematurely.

They look similar to the lights I have, which are these ones.
They really are IP65 and are excellent quality. Obviously more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I missed the last deal but dived in this time. I appreciate the concern about being 240v but they look great. You to look at your requirements and understand variables of the product. Look sooooooooo good!

Even if its the safest and most waterproof item i would not recommend using mains voltage in the garden. To start of most of the “waterproofing” is for jokes and yes after a certain period they will rust. Secondly if you regularly use them on a timer and you have kids or animals i would be super careful. If the outer shielding of the cable gets damaged you have live cable. Try to use solar ones or 12v main’s power so there is some safety. There is absolutely no reason to run 220/240v zig-zag around your garden. Even just looking at the amazon reviews you can see how thin the cable is.
