I'm sure this thread will be torn apart by some as the car is a Fiat, but thought this is excellent considering the price, and other cars in this class costing £7-8k more for the base model...

The Fiat Tipo "Street" model has a very respective equipment list considering the price and is not bare bones:
- Cruise control
- Autonomous emergency brake
- DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB
- Steering wheel with audio controls
- Air conditioning
- 16" black alloy wheels
- Tinted privacy windows
- LED Daytime Running Lights

The engine and equipment list will not set the world on fire and probably shouldn't be compared to a Golf/Focus type car. As this is clearly targetted as a budget car, in the small family car market, and is sort of an alternative to a Dacia.

Comes with the usual three year warranty, and if pay an extra £199, you get three years servicing included!

Deal is on until 30th June 2019.

It was not able to maintain motorway speed - every uphill was slowing down to 50mph... no matter which gear on, only change was the engine noise.Car itself is nice, but with another engine.

As a tip if this is brand new get the fiat extended warranty to give it five years fiat warranty - even if you don’t want to keep it for that long it is a great selling extra and will only cost about £250 but can only be purchased on a new fiat at that price

"The engine won't set the world on fire"
It is a Fiat so it might set itself on fire
Long story but I was in Rome a few weeks ago, walking around the back of Vatican City the Pope came out of a rear exit in the back of one of these! If it's good enough for him...

On the website, they have vehicle performance and it sounds OK(ish)... Far from perfect, but pretty respectiable for a base model engine.

I had the 1.4 as a loaner recently and a different experience sorry. Drove it using the Rev range and thought it was fine, just dull.

My only real gripe is they called it Tipo and I remember the 1st generation being so cool to look at, and bloody quick too when they put the Lancia power plant in. And the dashboard was just WOW!

I've rented this (in estate form) recently abroad.

Won't diss this deal really, it's a basic new car that provides sensible transportation from A to B, without feeling too rudimentary inside (like most Dacias). It does feel reasonably well put together, though its longevity is a question mark (Made in Turkey, this one). The cabin finish feels marginally better than the Punto Mk2 I used to have. No complaints about ergonomics.
On the road it feels more predictable rather than inspiring.

Only major disappointment is the engine really. It wouldn't be bad 15 years ago, but (save for emissions standards) it is definitely obsolete. Modern smaller turbocharged engines would give better performance and better fuel consumption. It's a pity that Fiat won't give any comparable offers for the 120hp T-Jet version.

It depends what you are comparing it to! That car should perform totally fine with that engine!

The person mentioning maintenance - read the post - the car had only done 300 miles that's hardly going to create a maintainace issue!

Just a little more punch in that engine and it’s a brilliant deal

36mpg doesn't sound good for a 1.4 95bhp car
Sorry sounding dumb if this is from fiat shop, would that mean that any fiat franchises would offer this price too
May not have much bhp but could still have plenty of torque, if it was say for example 120bhp you may have to rev it hard to get them extra horses, up to 4000rpm it probably performs as well as most higher bhp 1.4 engines.

Think that’s Vauxhall your thinking about!
Had this as a rented car also. Plenty of space on the front face of the steering wheel but where they put the volume button?? Behind the spoke... Lack of power, rear seats not folding down so don’t expect to carry anything longer than the boot...
36mpg combined for a small-ish 1.4 hatchback seems ridiculously poor in 2019.

They were such an amazing car - a hothatch I wished I had owned
All the fiat hatters out in force that still believe everything from Germany is great !! 20 years ago that might have been somewhat true - today however, not the case, far from it

I concur with this poster. Hired this out in Spain a few weeks ago. Ridiculously underpowered and struggled on the motorway. Thankfully someone put the window through early on the holiday and it got replaced with a Focus for the rest of the trip. Would not recommend.

How do you get 2 whales in a Tipo?.........

Over the Severn bridge!
Voted hot, very good price for this car, I can see that many people prefer to pay the same amount for a lease, that's because they don't like to own things.

I would counter that argument with a car like this costing less than half its new price over 2 years on a lease basis. What will it be worth in 2 years with 15k on the clock? Maybe about half it’s new price! Do you get my drift?

Well, it took a while, but finally I got this; however, I'll say that anyone should stay in his own limits, who doesn't afford to buy a £50k car, should buy a cheaper one instead of leasing an expensive one. What will worth a Mercedes after 2 years leasing? Few thousands pounds less in your pocket and no car, then, here we go again...

Where does it say about maintaining 70mph on motorway uphill?
what do you expect for the money , if your not bothered about having loads of BHP that you never use then its a great great , the MPG is fair also bearing in mind VW make theirs up !! its good value and will be perfect for someone im sure
Don't expect to be doing any safe overtakes in a majority of cases, from experience.
Decent cars IMO. That engine is a variation of the FIRE that they've been using since the mid-80s (had one in my first car, Fiat Uno), really well proven reliable design. Rest of the platform shares a lot with the 500X / 500L / Jeep Renegade. Nothing cutting edge or fancy, just a sound car.

Didn't review well at launch but that was at much higher prices than this - for £11k for a roomy new car you can forgive losing a few luxuries and some cheaper-feeling plastic.
After hiring a 1.6 diesel Tipo and being pleasantly surprised, I did consider this but was put off by the engine performance and economy. It is a good deal so definitely worth considering if you don't do a lot of miles

My first car was a fiat Tipo dgt with the digital dashboard. Cost £800. Was utter crap but I loved it, every journey was exciting as you didn't know if you'd make it. Never broke down on the way, had the courtesy to only fall apart at my destination. Was pretty big inside and very comfy

I remember seeing Nigel mansells fiat Tipo listed several times on eBay for a couple of grand about 10 years back. Was almost tempted.

The fire engines had that design that if the cambelt snapped then the valves were (usually) safe, just stick a new one on and off you go. If it wasn't for rust imagine there would still be more Uno's and pandas around as the engines can't be killed

Last FIAT I drove was a Palio in Turkey.

It was quite possibly the worst car I've ever driven.

Do like the look of these cars though....but would be unlikley to make me look away from a Korean or Japanese option.
