This DAP can play Spotify offline which is a nice bonus. It's not perfect, and as far as I can tell none of them are. However it ticks a lot of the boxes.

I can imagine this deal will head south, but for those in the know it may be of use or further comments from current owners might provide more info for all.

In any case, it's a good price and although only fulfilled by Amazon the actual supplier is sound. a 12 month warranty will obviously be applicable and if Amazon push you in that direction there should be no issues.

They are the UK distributers for FiiO and are selling it directly for £377.99

You can root it, add custom kernel etc

Custom ROM

With all of these Android based DAPs the issue has always been the relatively poor interfaces, but this particular model does have it's followers

The FiiO X5 3rd gen is equipped with two top-of-the-line AKM AK4490EN DACs, one for each channel. The AK4490EN is a part of a new generation of high-quality 32-bit DACs that supports all PCM and DSD formats. The outstanding sound quality of the final audio architecture employed in the X5 3rd generation is the result of closed beta users working tirelessly together with the team at FiiO in a quest to make this new X5iii sound the best that it can. The X5 3rd gen, following in the footstep of FiiO's flagship DAP, also offers two modes of operation, pure music mode and Android mode. In Pure Music Mode, only the main music player is available, no other apps run for smoother operation and a purer sound. In Android Mode, users are free to install and run any third-party Android apps according to their needs. By offering these two modes of operation. The X5 3rd gen brings a number of new features for a convenient wireless experience, 2.4 GHz allows users to listen to their favorite online streaming services. Aptx ensures a low latency, high-quality wireless Bluetooth experience, and DLNA is supported for even more forms of wireless connectivity. With the X5 3rd gen, you can play your music anytime, anywhere. In this new design made of fine stainless steel powder based on new metallurgical methods, the gap between the microSD card slot and the rest of the body is only 0.2mm, making for a more handsome body. The X5 3rd gen contains both 32GB of built-in storage and two external microSD card slots. Since each microSD card slot supports up to 256GB cards, the X5 3rd gen is able to carry up to a whopping 544GB of music, enough to store up to 130.000 songs. The X5 3rd gen contains a 3.8V 3400mAh battery that provides more than 10 hours of playing time. But when you do run out of battery, the new X5 has new rapid charging technology with temperature detection (with an on-screen indicator) For more Info Visit FiiO Website

Someone needs to integrate the sound quality of one of these with a mobile phone. High end phones seem to be all about processing power and screen quality - so great for gamers - but if you aren't into gaming, there's not much point.

The limitation of the dragonfly or similar DACS on many phones is the inability to have a large collection of lossless files on a phone. The FiiO can have up to 512GB on 2 SD cards. I've only ever heard good things about the Dragonfly red though.

Now if the dragonfly could somehow accommodate an SD card or 2, that would be perfect.

My understanding is that the LG V20/30 is a good as it gets for built in DACs on phones and they are meant to be very good.

Yes, I've read good reviews of those phones in terms of audio quality. I've recently got a Cyrus Soundkey for my Moto phone and that was £79 very well spent.
I've got one of these and while the music carrying capacity is brilliant, the software is a bit space invaders circa 1981- clunky and slow. Having said that I'm not now tied to Apple or Ipod which is quite liberating in a geeky kinda of way. The kit i bought also included 2 carry cases so you don't have to buy them yourself.
Is the battery removable?
also does the bluetooth support smartwatches?

OTG, USB hub, 2TB portable HDD and Dragonfly, win win. Plus a backpack.

Does this support MQA 96/24?

If you can be bothered
I have an older fiio but don't use it really since getting some B&W PX headphones, I know you can achieve better with top end wired headphones and a good source but the convenience is brilliant. Is there any sound benefit to this over a phone if using Bluetooth?
