News International says the News of the World will publish its final edition on Sunday.

The 168-year-old newspaper has been embroiled in a row about the hacking of mobile phones.
It is the UK's best-selling newspaper and reportedly the most read English language paper.

i would miss the £1 papa jones pizza vouchers

Not no more

Only "good" thing was the problem pages. Everything else was celebrity gossip / scandal. What was once a highly reputable newspaper went down the crapper after the News Int acqusition in the 60's. I feel sorry for the print guys who may lose their jobs, but the death of this paper I feel will help to slow the degradation of the U.K society....

I may have this wrong but arent they just rebranding? I'm sure this is all about protecting reputation so that the sky buyout will be minimally affected. The NOTW is ending but there will be a new equivalent from the same people. Seems they have tried to hold a paper accountable rather than the individuals who tapped up peoples phones.

Scummy Torie backed news paper = Rats

Yep will be a 7 day Sun newspaper- still a Murdoch owned company! People at the top have stepped away untouched yet the small fry are out of jobs! Never have and never will buy the Sun or "last" Notw paper, even if it was 1p!

Great, nearly coming to the end of our last bog roll in our house!

Its a great shame,
I have a question thou, how come the editor (i forgot her name) knew about police 'kickbacks' but did not know about phone hacking ?
?????;)

I think this should be boycotted. ANYONE who buys this on Sunday is mad.

Should make it the LOWEST selling sunday newspaper EVER. lol.

I always said the End of the World is Nigh! X)

People buy newspapers because druggies like kate moss and robbie williams are featured,so no chance of morality or anything else influencing a buying decision.
Very sad that yet again the workers are penalised whilst those at the top escape.

Does anyone remember when people used to use newspaper instead of Andrex?

The most apt photo's of Murdoch I've seen. I don't know about the paper being 168, he looks like he's getting there.

Or perhaps she loves him.

lets not pretend that the whole country is outraged by phone hacking. I for one am not bothered, journalists are supposed to snoop around. Another example of whipped up hysteria. People need to lighten up.

I don't want to start a flame war here, but ................ Are you crazy? There is a huge difference between 'snooping around' and illegally intercepting private messages, affecting murder cases by deleting evidence and giving false hope to the parents of a missing child when you know full well it is your own people hiding evidence.

I just feel sorry for the little guys at NOTW that get screwed over, whilst Murdoch saves his skin and that of his darling 'Rebekah Brooks' by launching 'The Sunday Sun' as if nothing has happened.

most of the outraged, are just people with a lefty agenda, happy to see a tory paper go to the wall. thankfully with Ed Milliband in charge, Labour wont get back in for some time anyway :-)

How could they ever get away with calling it a NEWS paper?
Been a load of carp ever since I can remember, as is the Sun.
I wouldn't pay 1p for either.
Heck you can read them cover to cover in less than 5 minutes apart from the sport pages.
"Protecting reputation" WHAT reputation?
Both papers have been nothing but sleaze for many a year.

I just hope we get a replacement Right Wing sunday paper soon. Can't bear all the lefty agenda **** like The People.

No-ones biting,try harder

Not worth £1. Cold cold cold. So much controversy over the phone hacking if peoople feel so strongly about it dont buy the offending papers and they'll soon get the message. It may have come out about NOTW but i bet they are not the only ones to do such disgraceful acts in the name of journalism. Im glad i dont waste my money on them.

Am I bothered about Celebrates and Politicians phones being hacked NO. Victims of crime and there families, and families of deceased service personnel YES.

If anybody looses there jobs, it’ll be Murdoch using this as an excuse to cut jobs

I'm going to buy a copy of the News of the World this Sunday.

I've lost my phone and need to pick up my voicemails.

Has someone really claimed there phone hacking is part of the journalists reportoire of legitimate news sources? Have a word with yourself ****.

Not that anything in this jamrag could qualify as news anyway. Utter drivel for utter morons.

Murdoch is closing the paper and making around 250 people redundant to save his own skin, 99% of the people who worked for the NOTW are innocent hard working journalists who will now be unemployed while the perpetrator kicks back on a luxury yacht somewhere with not a care in the world and a fortune in the bank, he is the one who should be brought to the sword.

Just a ploy by the heads of News Corp to save their own skins. The public should not only boycott this paper but also any other Sunday newspaper that is published to replace it.

Funny thing is, most Sun readers will be too dumb to realise that they're being fooled.

there seems to be a myth that in recent weeks NOTW circulation figures were down. this is not the case. you see the wider public are not bothered. any talk of boycotting the sun or other news international papers is nonsense. it wont happen.

utterly naive thing to say. even for the aopolitical, this rag has never been worthy of the word 'comic', let alone 'paper'.

deserves nothing but deep-freezing, the post. and the rag can burn in hell.

Oh, this goes way beyond phone hacking - into the realms of police bribery and corruption, atttempting to pervert the course of justice and the very real possibiltity that David Cameron will be toast, given the warnings he was given long ago about the soon to be arrested Coulson, his very close relationship with Rebekah Brooks and the apparently rubber stamped NI/BSkyB deal.

Bet Vince Cable is gutted at this news !

This is an absolute farce, the news of the world's reputation has been irreparably damaged, so they are going to end that brand name and extend one of their other news papers to run on a sunday instead. They will lose no long term profits and are simply hoping that within a short space of time people will forget that it is the same company making this paper.

Once again another example of American arrogance.
Edited by: "jonny619447" 8th Jul 2011

um, rupert murdoch is not american.

That's the problem with Murdoch - he's spent so long talking down to the 'little people' through his dreadful rags, he thinks we're all stupid. Two hundred jobs lost to protect his creepy son and the dreadful Brooks.

it will be a loss, despite anyones political or newspaper preference.

didnt they get behind the help for heroes campaign? sarahs law? and loads of other good things?

168 years of being on the news stands is part of british history

it is also the people who will be out of a job who i feel sorry for, it isnt just free lance journos it is printers, photographers it may also have a knock on effect.

no doubt there will be a sunday paper now called SUN-DAY or something simular.

they should concenrate on going after the phone hackers if it is THAT important then once they are caught and spill the beans on who commissioned them then they can be caught.

i will miss the sports section, colin hart was always very good in his boxing column and despite not doing a regular column for a long time he still wrote good articles on boxing.

Good to the advertisers for pulling their ads from News of The World but they should have pulled all their ads from News Corp to hit these arrogant so and so's where it hurts.

brum

They supported the Help for Heroes campaign - then apparently hacked into the phones of dead soldiers' families. They supported Sarah Payne - then also allegedly hacked her phone. Four thousand high priority targets have now been identified from just one investigator. These levels of behaviour came from the very top of the organisation - six figure sums were apparently paid for the information, and someone high up has to authorise that sort of money. Who actually carried out the hacking here is known (Mulcaire for one), it's the paper trail that is important - and that leads to the very top.
