Is this the whole game? I thought it was going to be released in parts or did that change?

It's believed to be around 40 hours long but yes it's part one that takes place purely in Midgar. The 2nd part will be released on next gen consoles probably in around two to three years
Can not wait!
Hope you have enough HD space clocks in at well over 100gb
Really feel that a lot of people are going to feel misled about the nature of this remake seeing as it's actually in parts.

It is not the entire original story, but it is a full game. It is not "episodic", but rather multiple full games. I suppose it's the only way they could justify it with the level of detail and fidelity they are going for. I would still prefer a straight up remake while keeping the game pretty much identical, but I am intrigued by this.

Lets not kid ourselves, its not full game no matter what they say. you cant take a 40 hours and add 80 hours extra game content in it(assuming its 3 part). "justify it with the level of detail and fidelity"? are you telling me its looks three times better and three time more detailed than RDR2, Witcher 3, FFXV etc?

I am expecting 20 hour main story and 10-15 hour extra if you every side quest. and hopefully the rest is released is lower priced expansion DLC instead of full priced standalone

Its a complete remade game and will be the length of a full FF game so it is a full game.

The rest of the story will be released in further installments.

Not that hard to comprehend.

or so they claim, pardon me if i remain skeptical, the 1st part of remake only contain midgard which is 3-5 hour at best, i dont see how they can add enough story content to almost 10 times original content.

Not that hard to comprehend., if you take everything they say at face value.

I mean, if you only ever pay full AAA price for games as big as Witcher 3, then you most likely don't buy too many games at launch, lol. Those are the exception, not the rule. I would imagine that the entirety of FFVII remake including the sequels will be bigger than those games, though. But who knows? If you are not sure, then don't buy it.

Well, if you can't see how they can turn the first few hours of an old game into many more hours of a COMPLETELY REIMAGINED GAME, then it's a good thing you are not a game developer.
Let's be real, Midgar was maybe the most interesting place in the entirety of FF VII, as well as the most iconic by a mile. Regardless of the way they developed this remake, one game or ten, a much expanded Midgar section was basically a given.

There's really no reason they couldn't just budget this properly and have a game called 'Final Fantasy VII Remake' be a remake of the whole of FFVII.

Maybe I'm just strange to think that.

Final fantasy 13 they made into 3 games. I can’t wait for this and explore more of Midgar. Someone’s already explained but just to point out it is a completely remade game. They’ll follow the story but gameplay, map size, places to explore, hidden areas, secrets and lots more will be bigger and more detailed. They’re not stupid they know if they make this short and rubbish they won’t sell the next parts of the story.

Only have to wait 15 years to get the whole game!

Assuming the first few parts sell well enough and they actually bother to make them!

Given the approach they took with this project, it is actually not possible to make the entire original game like this in a single game. I mean, it took them so many years to make just this one part, at some point they need to cash in, otherwise it's just an endless money sink. And making the entire game this way would mean another decade of development. That's just not a viable project by any means.

Maybe they shouldn't have done that? Like, that's a valid option. They didn't HAVE to add a tonne of extraneous bs

Yeah, obviously that was an option, but I don't think I can fault them for wanting to do it completely differently and more ambitious. The original is still out there and perfectly great still if that's what people want.

Maybe it would hurt sales, but most importantly, they are not sure themselves about how much interest there is in this remake. If it flops, then there won't ever be a "part 2".

Got to remember as well that the end goal is to make money. They’re essentially cutting it into a beginning, middle and end with ff7 remake.

They will probably have had the whole final fantasy 13 storyline planned in advance and then made it into the different games. Same applies here. Don’t get me wrong I’d love for all parts to be released at once but can’t blame them for releasing in parts to maximise profits. I’m just hoping we will have a proper world map in the future games like in the PS1 final fantasies.

Nope, I'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt. The game is coming out in a couple months, then we will see if it was worth it or not.

This is the company that sold 3.4 million copies of the first Tomb Rraider reboot and said it still sold 'below expectations'.

You don't need to be a financial expert to know that this is a company that doesn't have realistic financial expectations of things.

Are you for real? This goes for any series that doesn't bring in (enough) profit. It's not an exclusive trait of FF VII.

My point is, its fine if SE want to split the game, but to says its so detailed and so much content its has to be split into 3 part or more is bulls. Are you for real that you think it's okay to release a partial remake of an initially complete product, not make it at all clear that it's not the complete story being remade and then potentially not even finish the full series if it doesn't sell well - which is a distinct possibility if enough people feel misled by the misleading title?

Also FFVII is not a 'series', it's one game.

It's an assumption to begin with that the content in the first part of FF VII remake is only the first 3-5 hours of FF VII. We have already seen some things that happen later in the original happen in this first part (the part with Sephiroth with the flames for example, it happens in Nibelheim in the original). The story might be the same, but it is not told in the same order necessarily. We will see if it pays off or if it will just be a bad imitation.
