Fantastic game and the cheapest i've found for this. Comes with the Day One Edition DLC.

Nice!!! On it!
Definitely worth this price.
I got this game for 9.99 on the ps glitch back in April, was completely new to FF and I found it incredibly annoying.
It was very linear despite it's "open world" aspects, the car travel is a joke and fishing, camping or cooking food never been such a tedious chore in a game.
Sending letters to your beloved with a dog who casually finds you anywhere(without a scratch despite heavy military and monster presence...)Really?
The only thing I liked about it was the opening credits when they were pushing the car and Florence and the Machine was playing in the background.
After spending 20 hours in it, I was waiting to be charmed and taken into a fantasy, but all I got was annoyance, cringe and frustration.

I feel like you had an nearidentical experience to me. One of the most disappointing games I've owned in the last 5 years. Felt like £9.99 wasted.
I'll third the above.

Terrible game.

Dull, soulless, and just plain irritating.
I quit as soon as it said to regenerate health in battle you have to hang on your weapon on the side of a building/cliff etc... Like wtf?
One word. Breath of the Wild. Ok that's four but Zelda is one
I picked this up from Smyths the other day on the Xbox for £10, preowned. So worth a look in that section. Save yourself a tenner.

It must be bad if the best thing about it is Florence and the machine!!!
Amazing game. It's also had one of the best post launch supports I've seen in gaming. You can drive off road now and there's tons of new upgrades etc. available. The battle system takes some getting used to but it's much deeper than first impression, and the banter between the main characters is charming.
Yeah, I've seen a bunch of people out trying to assassinate this game for having the temerity to essentially be a road trip with the bros, but it's one of the coolest experiences I've played in ages. Going camping, fishing, just screwing around in the open world... it's good stuff. The main story's a bit weak admittedly, but the overall game and sense of camaraderie between the leads is excellent.

I mean, one of the complaints in an above comment is teleporting out of combat to recover. That's what's classed as a supposedly valid complaint these days. Putting aside the fact you can crack open a potion to recover instead for a moment, thank God most people aren't put off by stuff like that or we'd have spent all our time aghast at the the very idea of picking up steaks hidden away in bins back in the Final Fight days.
IMO, the story itself is fantastic, you just have to be really switched on to understand it fully because the delivery is where it goes wrong. Little things like the sound direction being off, particularly during the key reveal, as well as the translation.

I think n_huvos is trying to 'troll' actually. He/she's entitled to their opinion, but if they're not trolling then they really don't understand the game they claim to have played. Or they should have tried to develop their sense of curiosity or of finding answers and stuck with it until the end.

Oh yeah, the base story's entirely fine - it's just that, as you say, they don't know how to deliver it effectively. A lot of key moments occur off camera and the group rarely spend a lot of time face to face with the main threat of the empire or antagonists other than a certain guy who keeps popping up in weird places. It's fine to be on the run, but so much time spent on ancillary tasks does make it hard to connect emotionally with a lot of what's going on. There are some genuinely well executed story beats pulled off throughout, they're just slightly inconsistent.

Even so, I still think the game is pretty incredible overall. If I can get a PC version further down the line running at 60 with faster load times I'll be snapping it up again for sure.
