Looks like a Sammy. nice looking set.

Also worth note is another 40" model, minus freeview hd or smart tv functions. Bargain if you have a streaming set-up or plan to use a set top box with it though.

They should build TVs with a bluray player built in.

Does not make much sense. Yes there may be a market for a number of people who want such a model but there will be far more people who do not want such a TV - ie if you already have a bluray player, or if like me you simply do not want one. The manufacturers will be aware of this and do not want to make too many models with a limited audience.

Be aware that "Finlux" is now just a sub-brand that "Vestel" uses on TVs.

It doesn't make this a bad TV; far from it, just thought I'd mention it as so many people are 'anti' the Turkish manufacturer.

I've seen What Hi-Fi reviews being poo-poo'd in a few places.

While I wouldn't completely disagree with them, I think 5/5 for this can ONLY be justified based on the price. There ARE better TV's around than this. So what do they score? If this gets 5/5 what do they score a top of the line Panasonic or similar?

I'd say the AVForums review is a more accurate reflection: avforums.com/rev…534

They still give it a very respectable 7/10 and give it more pro's than con's. But they don't give it 10/10 ....

All that said, it offers excellent value for money. And you can't argue with that. It's a lot of TV for budget money so heat from me.

Yes definitely a good piece of technology.. for those who doesn't know who are they: Vestel produces some very high end products not only tv but other household items including tablets.largest in Europe and second largest in the world ( after Samsung ) if people want to be anti vestel let them be asthey might have no idea second largest tv and household manufacturer and officially the most popular in UK is Beko which is another Turkish brand.

its a valid point, i looked at this recently and to be fair to What HiFi they rate per price bracket. If you look at the AV receivers for instance they rate them in the £400-500 banding against others in that bracket. if the receiver falls to £250 at some point, they review in the lower bracket.

Im not im in complete agreement with what they do as by definition they are saying "you get what you pay for" which is not always the case, but i think across many many products, its probably fairly representative. As someone above said "there are better TVs" but from the What HiFi review standpoint the question is "Are their better TVs for £300 or less" which is probably how they arrived at 5 stars.

I only saw this over the last fortnight as I have been researching some AV receiver choices and noticed lots of "re-reviews".

Everywhere I've looked they have the largest TV manufacturing plant in Europe and it's the 3rd largest in the world, however this is just as a TV manufacturing plant.

They have an impressive revenue to say the least.

I'm usually anti Vestel/finlux as I bought a Finlux 42" 3D TV in late 2012 which was crap, so I sent it back. Finlux customer service is decent enough though. The What Hifi review of 5 stars is questionable.

Well the Turkish Delight deal, seems to be getting quite hot at poundstretcher!oO

There's been a few tvs on here lately.....notably Sony @ Costco yesterday....am I the only one thinking that "smart" isn't all it should be yet?
All I have seen don't rate that feature as any good on ANY brand in the reviews?

How can they give it 5 stars and say the sound is rubbish ?
Good sound is vitally important in a tv .
I like the way they say

A budget soundbar or soundbase, such as the £200 Cambridge Audio Minx … A budget soundbar or soundbase, such as the £200 Cambridge Audio Minx TV, will easily boost the sound quality.

Why not just spend the extra money on a better set with proper sound .

This tele was posted on hukd for £279 in december and was recently £289 so it might be worth waiting to get an extra few quid off

It became quite common to see CRT TVs with a built in DVD player.

The reason is it's another box the companies can sell you to go under your TV and make them more money.
