Come on, people - for a fiver you can give your family an extra level of security against fires.

Don't know how common it is with others but over the last 10 years I've had to stop 3 kitchen/ living room fires started by my naughty kids, luckily got them all early thanks to our fire alarms.

Wtf!!! Do you let them smoke or play with matches in your house lol

Well done on saving them though

Smoke alarms have small radioactive isotopes inside. They cease to be reliable after about 5 years, which is why most manufacturers say they should be replaced every 5 years or sooner. If you have a detector that is nearly up to 5 years or over 5 then check the instructions for recommended replacement date or just replace it.

It's not leechy, it's now part of a firefighter's role to carry out fire prevention work, this includes carrying out home fire risk assessments or safety checks and fitting smoke alarms. This has proved over the last decade to reduce the number of people dying in fires, although that trend has reversed in the last 2 years.

Any similar deals on carbon monoxide detectors? Would be great to get the 20% on both at once

Sweet just got 2 for £9.21 with first offer code

So they are fitting smoke alarms in your house whilst someone is burning alive around the corner lol

where are the stores?

mind you this is the ionising type - most likely not 'toast-proof', so if you install it near the kitchen, prepare to hush it a lot as well as replace batteries more often

how do these compare witht he Nest protects, i got the thermostat installed and quite liek the idea of being able to monitor the house when im out. Nest protects are expensive though

If U can't collect it's awful, 6 quid postage is more than the product

cheers for this... had the fire department install a few of these a few years ago and they're starting to run out. Will be handy not to have to remove the plates to fit something else.

I've got two in my house, drink batteries but don't go off by accident very often. Can't really tell if they work or not, touch wood!

I pay a fair bit in taxes, but I still ordered my own.
Thanks op!

The ones fire service provide have 10year batteries.. it's their job now so take advantage, also get free fire safety advice!

I think that service is best left for older or disabled people who might be housebound or confused/worried about the vast choice of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms available, the visit from the fire service will put their mind at ease that they have the correct alarms installed by professionals.
Younger able bodied people shouldn't be using this service to save a few quid imho, if everyone in the uk did this the fire service simply wouldn't be able to cope!
Don't be a tight ass and buy your own fire alarms and leave the free fire alarms and safety check for the people who actually need it!!

Are you and your family safe?
In Greater Manchester we are committed to reducing fire deaths and injuries by ensuring that every home in the county has a working smoke alarm. To ensure that this happens we are offering FREE Safe and Well visits that may include FREE fitted 10 year smoke alarms, where appropriate.
