This version is more than adequate for a child's tablet. My daughter has one, plus the Amazon parental controls are very good. Can get the Google play store on these easily as well

Worth it for the 2 year no worry guarantee. We smashed a screen replacement sent without fuss. (Once you find the right people to contact).

Looks good, thanks

No problem!

By the way if you own a kindle already you can message Amazon chat and say you're looking to upgrade and they'll give 15% discount. I'm currently deciding between £55 previous gen vs £75 for next gen

Great price, presumably because it is being replaced by the new model
The new version with more ram and more specs is coming that's why.
Anyways good price. Heat added.

Wait there is a newer model coming out soon. Its just come out in US. Don't buy this one.
Anyone know the new specs? I don't fancy 2 gb ram, everything seems to start at 4 nowadays and in a few years i suspect 4 won't even be enough.

Hi, is the new version out yet or do you know roughly when it will be? Thanks
Hi is this just the fire HD 8 with a kid friendly case or actually different..
We have one for our 3 year old. It’s a bit slow and laggy but fine for kids. Streams paw patrol fine so he doesn’t complain.

There are only a few tablets with 4gb ram, the vast majority are 1 or 2 GB RAM. This is a kids tablet, does not need anywhere near 4 GB RAM. I agree the more RAM, the better, but not for this tablet. 2gb ram is more than sufficient for a kids tablet. Even for adults, 2gb ram may be sufficient. You waste your money if you pay extra for more RAM.

We got this at Christmas for the same price, used every day and no issues, been thrown and dropped and its still like new. I would say the year of kids content alone makes this good value, then add the protective case and 2 year warranty it's great value for any child under 10.

I replaced my daughters 7 with the 8 and she says its much better. This is a great deal as the case alone is £22. The newer version of the tablet is twice the price
I got my daughter to buy a few HD8's in the States (worked out at about £40 each including free 32GB Micro-SD cards) and stuck them in foam kickstand cases with integrated handles off eBay (about £6 I think).

They've been absolutely superb. Sturdy, good battery life and a decent size. Perfectly adequate for my kids and me. They use theirs for the usual kids stuff like simple games and YTKids/Netflix/Disney+ etc. I use mine for streaming and also for eBooks/Audible and it's smashing.

Extra RAM just isn't necessary for the usual purposes these are for.

The only slight issue with ours (due probably to Amazon spitting their dummy out with a recent update) is that voice search doesn't work for YTKids, yet does for other stuff.

Anyway, heat for this deal.

Yes, if you search for it, there are some good and very easy guides for doing it.
Basically it's...

Download 3 apps (from a safe place, like xda)
install them in the right order,
Restart
Enjoy...

Been there and done that

I initially put the Kids Unlimited on a 7" Fire and it was painful mainly down to it having only 8GB onboard storage and paltry 1gb of memory, which is why your son is complaining.

Then I had one of these offers to get the Fire HD 8 Kids edition, I think at a similar price to this offer so I upgraded. The HD 8 is a MUCH better device than the older Fire 7 (cant vouch for the newer revised ones which came out last year I think)

The HD 8 Kids edition has 32GB as a start, instead of 16GB on normal HD 8, and given the recent sale of those were at circa £44, then the extra £20 for the case, the kids unlimited subscription for a year and the extra 16GB storage along with 1.5GB ram, makes it worth in my opinion.

I quite like the HD8 as a consumer device, and I have 3 Fire devices in the household, and I recently got the Kids Unlimited Family account so both my girls have their own accounts (one has the 32GB one, and I recently pushed a 16GB ).

To end, that cruddy 7" version, it has now been repurposed as the parental control device
And yes I know there is a new version, but at this price, this outgoing version is worth it for the kids.
Great value

It is of couse a device designed for Amazon focused media, however it's easy to get the play store on, can access YouTube and has apps for other media providers.
literally ordered 1 - deivered yesterday. asked for refund difference. amazon said no so returning for full refund and bout new ones. would loose 3.99 but hey better than 64.99

Me to on 4th April but still eligible for return. Checked on chat they said return it and buy it again. If it was less than 30 days ago do the online chat and they should refund you the difference.
I bought this for my 4 year old son as both his sisters had tablets and he wanted one too. My girls have the fire 7 and they are constantly moaning how their tablets are so slow compared to my sons tablet. Now they are always on at me to purchase them this.
Not sure if anyone can help, I've installed Google Apps, but how do I transfer the installed app, such as YT Kids onto the child's profile. Also, is there anyway to change the wallpaper on the homescreen/lockscreen?
Do these kids tablet take a micro sd card? And can you store amazon kids apps and games on an sd or just the built in memory allowed. These tablets seem to have a track record of low storage

New one will be way more expensive. For this price it's a bargain with that 2 year guarantee, would recommend this over the new one unless you really feel your kids need more specs.

Yes it is limited but it’s for kids. If you know what you are doing you can get most apps into the kids profile. There are limits against what Amazon allow though in general. £64.99 is a great price
I'm going to order one of these as a present for our Son's birthday in a couple of months time. I get the impression that the 1 year free "Kids subscription" is only activated on initial setup of the tablet, but does anyone know if the 2 year guarantee is activated at the same time, or if it's from the date of purchase?
