I answered that question based on my experience with the hardware I have. Don't have to be a pr**k about it. Not "heated" or "colded" either way.

I didn't insult you, hence you don't have to either. No need to get down to Trumpian levels of crassness just because someone else has a different opinion.

I hope you have a nice weekend.

No, 1080p. You need the non stick Fire TV for that.

Why is this better than the Chromecast ?

Why is this better than the Chromecast ?

It isn't. I use it only to watch Amazon Prime stuff. I've tried to use it for Netflix and DisneyLife. The slowest and buggiest thing ever. Mind you it's the older Fire Stick.

Everything just works a lot easier with Chromecast. Piece of cake.

The new Firestick is an entirely different beast. Please don't conflate the two, this is the new version in the deal. Fantastic deal for the combo here.

Heated.
I have both the Chromecast and the new Fire TV stick. The Chromecast lets you put stuff from your phone, tablet or PC on the big screen.

The Fire TV comes with a remote and you don't need another device to use it. You can also link it to your Dot so you can control it with your voice too.

That being said, you can control Chromecast with your voice with Google Home too, although I found you have to get weirdly specific in your phrasing 'OK Google play nineties music on Spotify on Home TV'.

Both are good but I use the Fire more. It's just personal preference. You can download apps, so you can have iPlayer, Netflix etc. too just like on the Chromecast. I like the remote and the audio out so I put my dot through my speakers.

It's hard to explain in a few sentences. Google it and compare with Google Home. Lots of useful info out there, explained in an articulate way.

Its a little box that likes to say "Hmmm ... Sorry, I don't know that one",
....so you have to keep rephrasing the question, until it comes up with the correct answer, (with its so smug little girly voice), implying that you were a complete idiot for not asking the question like that in the first place

Is the Firestick still excruciatingly painfully horrendously impossible to use lagfestingly slow? The first gen one is absolutely useless it lags so badly even after a hard reset and nothing installed. This still has 1GB RAM makes me wonder if it's actually that usable.

I only use it for streaming stuff I cant get elsewhere, and its not what I would call fast, but no way is it a lag fest..

This is what I wanted to know. I essentially was alluding to this in another reply, but I couldn't verify if the new one actually has better internals. I don't think it does. The RAM as you say is the same so the only difference is Alexa voice control.

While RAM and Storage is the same, the CPU and Wifi is improved.

Last time I used one, it wasn't excruciatingly slow but it could still feel laggy when using the menu but it was still functional for using Netflix, etc.

Personally, I'd choose the Fire Stick over the CC where possible because I prefer the independent device and being able to run native apps (handy while streaming from lan with no transcoding).

That's helpful thank you.

I agree thinking about it, it is nice to have a different device with a remote control so the kids can stop, start, select as they please.
The new fire stick won't do sop cast it jumps like a bad thing the chrome cast isn't much better. Still on hudl and yoga direct hdmi until a better option comes up
Was going for it, but might wait for prime Monday. Would this fully function if the network is covered with a VPN? Anyone tried that set-up with NordVPN? Or maybe any other service?
Getting the deal for sure, but I am afraid I might need to turn off the VPN for those.

It works with VPN. I’ve just done it. You have to turn off vpn to use normal things tho eg prime and Netflix.
Not sure how much cheaper this will be on prime day
I've just noticed this deal is cheaper now on Amazon.

Wanted to wait until Prime Day but just had to snap this up at this price.

If anyone decides to get the ethernet adaptor don't forget to add the '20WELCOME' promo code to get 20% off amazon accessories.

ETA Actually the 'PD2018' code offers 25% off amazon accessories so use that one instead!
