The fire service’s budget you mean? It’ll help it more than turning up to the same house to put out a fire and rescue/recover the inhabitants, I would guess...

It's cheaper to equip houses with fire alarms than to attend a house on fire with a full crew.
The prevention makes sense and the financials make sense.

They did it at my parents house. They fitted an extra smoke alarm and, because my dad is practically deaf, they also put an alarm by the bed that flashes...they may be too blinded by it to get out of the house if there was an actual fire (that thing is bright!) but my dad feels a lot better having an alarm he doesn't have to rely on his hearing for.
Was £5.98 so not much of a saving.

Might be cheap, but personally I'd rather pay the bit extra for the below with 10yr sealed battery:

Fireangel ST-622Q 10 Year Thermally Enhanced Optical Smoke Alarm, Multi-Colour amazon.co.uk/dp/B00T29W4MM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_U4chEbY3K13G7

Had a nightmare time with Fireangel's interlinked alarms. Always went off at random, especially in the middle of the night! Had to get them removed and some pricey wired ones put in. Shame, because the price on their stuff is great, but after checking for other people with out same issue, it seems their kit can be pretty hit and miss, and the random alarms going off is common.

My grandmother's smoke alarm was intermittently going off, so she called the fire service. They sent round 3 men including a full fire truck to replace it!

Guess they don't have much to do, so probably keeping them in a job all these fire alarm checks!

That's not the case, they spend a lot of time around prevention, and the fact that they don't have much work is great, it's like not needing a doctor!.

Maybe it's for the PR, they do that in schools to help prevent arson, fire trucks impress children!
Same for the public. If bringing a fire truck helps with public awareness, and if no services are affected , then I'm for it!.

Hope your grannies ok and never needs the fire service!.

Yep my Granny is very happy indeed, she certainly loved the attention she got, although she did feel rather guilty that she could of asked a family member to swap it over.
Or spend £80 on a nest one

Nope because she never asked me, even though I live half a mile away and visit her at least twice a week!

LFB 100% will.
These were £3.99 at Aldi's recently and I got a couple. One now won't stop alarming. I think it may have dust from some drilling I did but despite cleaning it and then leaving battery out for several days, as soon as I put the battery back in it started alarming again. Needless to say I haven't had a fire and the one upstairs has been fine.

Not impressed. Can't recommend them.

House will still be on fire usually, these just give a bit more of a fighting chance the inhabitants get out alive.
