Well most steelbooks retain there value if you sell them on you can at least get what you paid for them unlike standard packaging were you will be lucky to get even half the price back in a lot of cases steelbooks sell for more than there original purchase price these are also aimed at the fans not the casual 1 or 2 time viewer.

As long as nothing superceeds blu-ray, how much are DVD steelbooks worth?

I like it and I want it, but it is too much for no additional content over the standard version. A model of the ship (or Summer Glau) woulda clinched it (_;)

That's more an anomaly then a rule, especially nowadays when everything is just as mass produced as it's Amaray counterpart.

Most steelbooks have a print run of 3k-5k, so no its not mass produced in most cases like tinker tailor. Check most of the steelbooks that get released, many get oos in pre-order stage, many just after release and some a few months down the line. Skyfall that is just coming next week, is now being sold at almost 3 times the price.

I always try to get the steelbook versions of the films I wish to buy because usually on release they're priced the same or £1-2 more and they're retain their value better than a standard blu ray, for example Lawless steelbook was £14.99 on release the same as the standard, now the standard edition is selling for £12 and the steelbook sells for £24.

Maybe the situation has improved but I just got tired of every new release steelbook being released in every country with identical artwork or re-releases of rare ones. Most steelbooks that have a supposed print run of 4k you can still buy, the Wolverine & Man on Fire wave were released in June with a print run of '4k' & you can buy them on Zavvi.

Same here. When Firefly can be obtained for less than £10 on Blu-Ray, it's very silly of Fox to expect triple that price for a steelbook case. Had they priced it at £15-20 I think this boxset would of seen alot more interest.
