They'll even come to you! They come to your house and do a free fire check and then give you really good spec smoke detectors and other useful stuff.

cheap enough but as pointed out the fire service will fit one or more if needed for free - so cold Im afraid

The fire service will come out when they are ready - not tomorrow or the day after or not even for a couple of months!

No harm in getting 1 from the shops and fitting it

You cheap skates!!!!

Such a great cause.
Hot.

At £1.25 I would feel very guilty if I used the resources of the fire service.

After Fire Brigade came out to rescue my 18 month grand daughter who managed to lock herself in bathroom (they were concerned about drowning in loo, bath etc) they gave wife a lecture and said alarms were fitted in wrong location and duly fitted new ones in CORRECT location. I would recommend using their resources without question as they are the ones with expertise!

It's a good price, but there is something a little disconcerting about spending so little on something you could end up relying on to save your life. Didn't realise the fire service could provide them though.

yup, free smoke alarm and free fitting from the Fire Service, and a Fireman Sam of your very own, maybe blue watch, with yellow boots and a helmet....... sorry getting carried away

Firemen fitted 2 smoke alarms for free and gave me a deep fat fryer. It's funded nationally and not locally btw so you've really paid for it already with your taxes

If you are high priority the check should be in less than two weeks, normal priority no more than six weeks. Not always the case but we try.

I imagine the lives and money saved by providing this home fire safety check far outways the cost of fitting some fire alarms and educating people.

I applaud the idea. To say its a drain on the Fire Service's resources is a bit short-sighted.

The smoke alarm isn't listed.

Good price, but like others I had the fire service come round and fit one for free.

And to those people that say it is a misuse of the fire service and a waste of our money, I have to say that as someone else mentioned this is funded out of the governement and we have already paid for it. Also, the firefighters that fitted mine say they are actually given a target quota of how many they should fit each month so we are actually doing them a favour by asking them to fit them!

Furthermore, this does not affect their firefighting ability as they fit them between shouts, and if a fire starts somewhere then they will immediately head off to fight it.
