***First post*** Costco membership - carers allowance

First post please don't shoot...☺

Spoke to Costco yesterday about membership criteria.

If you (or someone for you), are in receipt of CARERS ALLOWANCE you can join Costco.
The person who receives it is the main account holder and you have a 'spouce' card.
You still pay the joining fee of £38 but you get a voucher for £25 and a year of savings on shopiping and fuel.... win win I think .

Hope this helps someone xx

Not a deal, therefore had to vote cold.

oh no you didn't, could just have left it alone. Voted HOT to balance the equation.

not sure what carers allowance is, is it the same thing as attendance …not sure what carers allowance is, is it the same thing as attendance allowance? Think my mum gets that so she could join Costco (god knows how she would get there tho) - thanks!

Carer’s allowance is a benefit paid to the carers of people getting attendance allowance or the equivalent of attendance allowance for younger people. You have to care for someone for 35 hours a week minimum I think it is and the amount you get is just over £60 each week which is appalling considering many people are saving the NHS thousands each year. Caring often doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves.

Good post. Unfortunately there isn't a Costco anywhere near me as they seem to restrict themselves to major cities.
Heated for awareness.
Newbie eh? Don't worry even if it gets iced I'm sure the kids will forgive you. Atfer time.
Thanks for posting - I wasn't aware

Useful info but now Costco are even doing deals on Groupon any criteria can seemingly get membership, if youre not on the normal list of professions etc just say you're a Small Business startup invent a name and I cant see them turning down membership. There is no monetary risk to them as there's no credit, payments are all at point of sale via Cash or Debit Card and I think they only allow an American Express Costco Credit Card.

They allow any American Express Credit or charge card for payment. Doesn’t have to be a Costco branded one

How very silly.
I’m new to this Costco thing, what’s the benefits of having to pay for a membership and does that outweigh the saving you could make. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Baa humbug!!

Good first post Mitchred.
Soon they'll offer membership with cornflakes!
Head added
I use the opticians at Costco for my glasses and contact lenses. No hard sell like I found at Specsavers, good selection of frames and very cheap for premium brand contact lenses. Both me and my other half need contact lenses so the saving more than justifies the membership fee. I hope that helps
Already have a Costco card, but heat for the awareness as many friends are carers
Thanks op
useful to know
Mucho warmth!
I believe you can prove your entitlement by post so no need to visit in person.
Cab you still get this is its a child you get careers allowance for.

Of course it's a deal. They are giving you a £25 voucher to be redeemed instore or online.

That's a great deal in anyone's book.
Thanks

trade members have to produce proof that their business is genuine: warehouses.costco.co.uk/mem…ip/ not just have a name.

thay being said if you get a business friend to join 'add-on' membership is cheaper and you could split the overall cost.

heat added OP for this info.

Just phoned costco in Glasgow, they know nothing about this :-(
Im a former Costco member, decided not to renew. Personally find bulk items are much cheaper through Amazon prime or individually at Wilkos/Savers. The electronics deals are not great and in 99% of cases are cheaper in John Lewis using price match.

Not saying its a bad deal but I personally didn't get much value.

Maybe before signing up lend a friend's card and see if it's for you.
