Very pleasant watch, though it isn’t a dress watch, it’s clearly a field watch.

Wanted one but was always disappointed at the face. Now they have released a hand winding watch with much much better face I can never see me buying this particular model.

Mike_HUKD

Good to know before it's too late (y) It's due to the movement. The same one is used across several models (and brands), so that dictates the placement of the date wheel. If you check our the Hamilton Khaki Automatic you'll see the date wheel lines up perfectly with the 38mm dial on that one without disrupting the 24 hour markers, much better aesthetic in my opinion. However look at the 42mm Khaki Automatic, and you've got the weird pushed in 15 again.

DomManley

Oh god, that's all I can see now! Why would they place the 15 like that!

voodooboard

Note that it is hand-wind only; not an automatic.

neil.solender

I'm tempted by the v as it's got the power meter. Looking to upgrade from my fenix 3. I don't understand the cold either? Put on a m & s meal deal and it's mega hot, save people £100 and it's cold, oh well if it saves someone something it's all good. I don't think people actually read prices description etc. And just follow the voting.

_RobP

I'm waiting to see what the reviews are like once Polar adds phone notification support. I don't understand why the cold votes though? Probably because it's not a Garmin

I never thought of RW as a 'serious' watch because they are on IdealWorld TV shopping channel a lot, with the guy saying "you must get this insured" "the collectors are on the phone lines!", "you must buy it" "we only have 8 of the black left, if you have it in your basket, checkout now because we only have a few left, don't miss this opportunity"...then 20 mins later..."we only have 8 of the black left...

Blurigard

Loads of people buy watches, keep them a bit and sell multiple watches on in order to keep their collection fresh or to trade up to something better. I flip watches all the time and I've flipped a couple of ladies' Weil watches. They've all been quartz and they're quite nicely made, with bespoke marked movements. As you say, Weil and Hamilton are probably sold to different demographics. Regarding the Hamilton khaki, the 38mm is becoming quite rare now and I've seen them sell on eBay for above base price, even on nearly new models. It's mad! If I were buying to keep or to flip down the line, I'd buy Hamilton over Weil on the basis of better residuals. I like the OPs watch, even though it's probably not for me. I think RW are probably better made than something in the equivalent bracket from Tag Heuer.

thethinwhiteduke

People sell on watches of "just a few hundred quid" all the time. Why they should choose do so is, quite frankly, none of your business.

coldpop

Why would you look to sell on a watch that’s just a few hundred quid? In that bracket you’re just looking for functionality. It’s not a Rolex. It’s never going to be an investment. Hamilton and Weil make equally great watches, but I’d say for different buyers. Neither brand will hold value for resale though.

Sammy86

It isn't bad for 400gbp... an everyday watch without having to worry about winding it after period of not using it. Purchased in June of this year a Hamilton Frogman for around 600gbp - automatic mechanism.

Price back to £599 and the code no longer works

Wilkiedan

Aye, I've just looked and they've changed it to 5% :/ it definitely said 10% if ordered before 8am tomorrow at the time of posting though. Still, I'm gonna hang fire for the time being (y)

shappinbegs

The advert seems to be out of date and doesn't offer any discounts. They do however have a 12% off code which I've added.

Wilkiedan

If you've never ordered from them before you might be able to get this offer, which has popped up on my Facebook. I'm gonna wait until my 735xt comes back from repair before deciding whether to take the plunge or not, it does everything I need apart from music for training, I just have to be careful about using it in the sea again.

shappinbegs

I think the text went away because the offer is out of stock. I think you're right on the price though. I'm holding out for £400 or there abouts. Changed the deal to the next best offer. I think some competitors will announce competition in January and that may drive the price down a little. I don't expect Garmin to announce a Fenix 6 though.

It's not really a smartwatch as such. It's much more than that. You stick with your smartwatch that won't last a full day and is nowhere near as powerful. (popcorn)

Well i am impressed by this watch and am certainly not going to return it. Listening to music off it is awesome, no need for my phone anymore - this does drain the battery mind, but thats not unexpected! Garmin pay is awesome.... especially when im out for a run and come to pub where i may or may not fancy a cheeky pint or 2 :D Bit annoying initially as i had to open a Starling Bank account, though it turned out this was dead easy to do and zero hassle. Shame all banks dont adopt this, but nevermind. Accuracy on the GPS is good and seems accurate. Fix is pretty quick, not sure if its any quicker than my old (rip) Forerunner 235 though? The battery drain is pretty much what it says in the book aswell. I have suffered post activity drain once since ive had this watch and it was after id played golf (dropped an extra 6%?). Barring that, its been as per the Garmin specs. The one thing i have noticed is that my phones battery seems to be taking a hit, not sure whether thats just the age of the phone or its directly linked to the watch, as it was starting to wain before i picked the watch up? Worth noting however, that some people have experienced bad battery life, so far (fingers crossed) i havent. Played golf with it twice now, and to be honest its a bit basic to what ive seen on other specialist Golf watches (from memory). It did however, show me all the information i required, but sadly not on the one screen. I had to scroll down, which isnt a deal breaker, but a tad annoying. But having said that, it did exactly as required and then updated my phone with the shots i played on the holes graphically. I love this. I need to learn how to use it for golf but overall am pleased and it saves me buying a dedicated golfing watch. So worthwhile imo, but probably should be better due to the cost, but then that would eradicate specialist golf watches i guess. Appearance wise its still pristine. No scratches or damage and ive never had it off my wrist whilst grafting or working in the garden. Very happy and very impressed :D Whether its worth an upgrade over the Fenix 5 i doubt, but over older models, definitely

dante256

I think the 5Plus makes the regular 5 a much better, the battery life is naff when I was testing it https://titaniumgeek.com/garmin-fenix-5-plus-review-when-more-can-mean-less/

hutchy007

Well it arrived the morning as stated, 2 days after ordering. Which was impressive considering it was showing out of stock with a 7-10 waiting time. So as far as shop service goes, 1st class! First impressions of the watch are that i love it. I love the fact that i just put on my trekz titanium headphones and off i go, no phone, nothing, and music or podcasts playing. So for me, thats huge. Only had a little play about with the maps when out on a short bike ride (7 miles) with the bairns, but gps seemed accurate and directed us correctly. Battery life didn't do anything bad after a coupe of shortish runs and a bike ride (like some have reported), so ill just have to wait on that and see if its consistent. Haven't had the 'powerdrain' that others have reported. Garmin pay is a bit of a diddle at the moment as not many UK banks have signed up, so it looks like im going to have to open up an account with one of the banks to use that service. A pain, but worthwhile imo for what it gives me. Playing golf next week so will report back on that one, however, from what i've seen it looks like a pretty basic golfing watch, which im a little disappointing at, but ill withhold judgement till then. Ill report back later when ive had it a little while, but after a weeks use, my first impressions are very positive!

Degsym

Delivered the next day. Great service
