Update 1
Now £59.99 using the eBay code - POPULAR20
Perfectly capable machine for browsing, comes with 1 year warranty and 1080p screen. Its also got a metal shell, looks much nicer than cheap plastic..

You'd pay £50 for an old machine with no warranty on Gumtree...

1080P IPS 11.6" screen
Intel® Celeron® N4000 Processor - 1.10 GHz / 2.60 GHz
32Gb MMC drive
4Gb RAM
Micro SD slot max 128Gb
1.04kg

Its a rebadged Geo, currently £149.99 at currys
currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

geo-computers.com/geo…on/

You may prefer this 13.3" version(comes with a M2 SSD slot(as pointed out by Musicrab) to expand the drive size, very handy. its £79.99, and probably worth the extra if you don't mind paying another £20 for an additional M2 SSD.

Dunno about this - spec almost renders it not fit for purpose
Good deal for me but they will come along and moan about the 32gb....
It's horses for courses.. it will be painful to use.. but for the most simplistic of things it should be fine... Definitely not a cheap all rounder, should be ok to boot up word and take notes at uni and maybe watch YouTube or videos... Other than than that... It won't be pretty or will be unbearable.

To my mind most people would use it to browse, play netflix, bit of music, look at pictures, for that it will be perfectly fine.

I've got the fivetech flex refurb from a couple of weeks ago with the same processor, and 1080p screen, its fine.

Absolutely, but its £71.99. In which case buy a 4/5 year old laptop on gumtree and add an ssd, be about the same price.

Maybe this one then for £79.99 as its the same N4000 processor as this deal, instead of the slower N3350 processor on most of the Fivetech 3 machines, and it comes with 1 year warranty.

They do 6 months or 1 year warranty, often the 1 year is only £5 more.

I'm torn between something like this (well, the 13" one so I can add an M.2 drive) or an older refurbed business laptop around £150 - like the Lenovo/Dell's that keep popping up on Itzoo.

It's for a friend who doesn't need to do anything too intensive, just a bit of browsing, streaming netflix/movies both on the laptop and onto a tv etc. Putting a 120gb M.2 in taking it to £100 is pretty sweet and they could always hook up an external drive or pen drive for additional storage.

Personally I went for a Dell E6420 a few years ago with an i5 and a dvd bay so I could stick in an ssd as a boot drive and put a hdd in the dvd bay for storage.

I'm guessing they dont have touch screens like this one?

If they don't need windows, maybe a Chromebook...
Dual core is bad, I'd recommend minimum N4200 quad core.

It's a Windows machine I'm looking for, it's a case of deciding between the 2 types in this price range
Quick research brings: 1. Won't take more than 4gb of ram. 2. Can't upgrade CPU. 3. Windows is using up all this storage in 3 months. 4. Touchpad and keyboard fail to register touches or register as double presses. 5. Lcd border frame is chipping away without dropping down. 6.basic not update able bios. 7. Battery fails quickly. 8. Charging plug flimsy. I did consider the purchase. Not any more
Something like this will be more powerful, will have a lower res screen though: uk.webuy.com/pro…13b

Being able to stick a 2.5" ssd in there is handy but you'd be wanting to upgrade the ram too and you've got to find yourself a copy of windows....

Or this one looks decent with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD: ebay.co.uk/itm…021
I think we are overthinking things for a 70 quid newish laptop.
Manage your expectations accordingly.
Sure if you need more.. then pony up some more cash and buy something else.
There's still a market for these cheap laptops.. as long as you know what you're getting yourself into.. it won't exactly be a tasty new yoga or surface device.. but it won't cost that much either.

As I've said before.. it will be fine for taking notes at uni, or watching YouTube... For more demanding uses, avoid this.
This device at best is a stop gap solution until you get to a proper PC. If you set this expectation, you'll be fine...

Cheers. There's no power adapter and they have this rather confusing message

Any Windows licences (if included) can't be guaranteed to be working, and we cannot confirm how many activations are remaining. OS is not installed.

Which is rather odd!
Just received My Geo Book and I'm confused about the M.2 slot. I bought an M.2 SATA on the assumption it would be SATA but don't think it fits. Is this NVMe/PCIe !? I've never used M.2 before.

EDIT: worked fine in the end; I just had to put the M.2 SATA card in upsidedown.

Which Geo Book did you go for, the 11 or 13 inch version? Which M.2 did you buy?

Cheers for the tip, bit fiddly..

Search for a 2242 M2 sata.
amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B076PGM4Y5/

If you search, don't mix it up with msata or NVMe.

Cheers. Decided on the 13" one too. I think I'm gonna suggest the 240gb version for a tenner more - not a huge amount of storage but 200gb will hold a fair few films.

Really good value these laptops with M.2 slot....and Pentium N5000 if you can get one cheap. My first M.2 took me a while to fit the SATA drive. It went in upsidedown (!) Also I see that NVMe is mentioned in the BIOS. Surely this doesn't take an NVMe SSD?
I've had problems with the wifi; Intel AC 3165 device sometimes disappears when coming out of sleep. No device, no chance of wifi. May have to get a micro-USB wifi stick.
Just out of interest, does anyone know what Geo model the N400 13.3" version is? I'm assuming the 3 not the 3X - it's tricky to find any info out!

I checked using cmd and "systeminfo" and found it's the Geo Book3, so now I need to find the drivers for that.

How did you get on with the wifi - still having issues or has it levelled out?
It's been alright for last few power-ups. But I'm not convinced its fixed. So keeping a wifi dongle close by.
Still a few of these laptops around in varying condition from about £80 (Pentium version).

Try the following which may work to get the network adapter working (works on the fivetech flex):
Goto the bios
Select chipset
Select south cluster configuration
Select pci express configuration
Select pci express root port 3
Set it from auto to enabled
Save the bios changes and reboot
I'm having issues with the USB ports, devices I'm using keep disconnecting and reconnecting - finger's crossed there's a simple explanation. (I have the 13" version - GEO book3)
natah04/10/2019 21:56

Could go do me a favour and check which driver you have please? Did you do a clean install or just clone and are the driver's the standard ones or did you install manually?

Sorry for slow reply...around all day now ... I was lazy and cloned the original C: (emmc) to new SSD.
Which driver details do you want? (may be an easy way to do them all? trying sys info...)

I've just checked and it's the exact same one thats on the laptop So if it's not a driver issue, then that's not a good sign - I'll have a read up and see what else it could be - I just hope it's nothing to do with hardware....

WOuld you mind checking what bios version youre running please? Its showing as

uefi 2.6 PI 1.4

Build date 09 21 2018
Same except date 7 5 2018.
EDIT: might try a clean install, but probably no difference from what was on the laptop originally...(to fix Intel 3165 wifi not always starting from power resumption. But wifi dongle is a small, cheap, reliable fix.)

I used it with no issues (the free version of reflect) - the usb port problem is there on both the emmc and the m.2 anyway.
