great deal been looking for this

Can you blow stuff up and mod the planes with laser canons? Can you setup multiplayer extreme frag servers where you fly around in F14s calling yourself Iceman or Maverick and blow each other up over and over while trying to protect ground base from being bombed by alien spaceships? If yes then I'm all for it, however if it involves taking off from Bristol airport flying to Dusseldorf for 2hrs and then landing again, then no. I dont get these games and never will, I believe there was a MS Train Simulator? I mean, why?

Still, besides my inability to understand the appeal of these games voted hot because I know peeps dig these games and I know its usual £30 odd.

Believe it or not people like to fly planes. Its not just as straight forward as taking off from bristol and flying to wherever, it takes a great deal of skill, technical knowledge etc to fly a commercial jet liner. IMO much more challenging than bashing a few buttons trying to shoot a load of stuff up. Add in some extreme weather, and a few random failures and away you go!!! And yes using autopilot all the time is cheating.

lol pukenukem, it costs a lot of money to learn to fly this is a cheap way to get ahead of the game and make learning to fly cheaper.

Also there is air traffic control in the latest version so much more immersion. Indeed it's a select market but I've been into realistic flight simulators for 13yrs since I was 13. Took a glider lesson the other day and he said well your experience in flight simulators clearly shows as I made my level flight turns. I knew exactly what he was talking about with regards to the dials wasn't anything new. Only thing new was when he pushed down on the stick and I left my belly behind.

whats in this that the delux/acceleration pack doesn't have?

people enjoy aviation, fsx is very realistic, you can even use it to an extent as an educational tool. Its a challenge to learn to fly the planes and deal with weather and aircraft systems etc.

i dont get football or football games either; to me its a bunch of aggressive but very fragile, injury prone boys with nice haircuts kicking about a pigs bladder for obscene amounts of money... but i can see why other people enjoy it. We all see things differently, to each their own...

this, my dad absolutely loves it, I can't stand watching it.

Thanks, I've been thinking about buying this for a while.

thought commercial planes practically fly themselves...well, according to my old colleague who teaches newbie pilots of light planes

true dont see the appeal myself, but even the best pilots continuously train/learn in simulators

Bit of green eyed monster there I think. Both fields have their difficulties, but remember Commercial Pilots make it look easy, a bit like computer experts who make it look easy!

Cheers

Dave

Good price but make sure you have plenty of HD space; think it needs about 18GB total for these!

Ordered thanks, but from dvd.co.uk their partner site as I already had an account there, price was £17.95 delivered.

Thanks

What spec pc would you need to get the full graphics out of this?

You also need a high spec PC to run this, I have it and love it but had to un-install because my pc won't run it unless you set the settings to very low in which case you don't get nice planes and scenery.

Freejack, have a check on the MSx webby and check the specs, but you need a lot higher than they state.

yes, many of them can. but you still need to know how to fly in case something goes wrong. fsx fully provisions for this by allowing you to set failures, stress etc.

flying with autopilot continuously or using ILS to land is a bit like having FIFA, PES etc set to beginner, boring and absolutely no challenge.

I have
AMD Dual core Athlon Black edition 7750 2.7GHz
4GB RAM (not utilised fully in Vista 32bit)
Nvidia Gefore 9800GT 512MB
Audigy 4 sound card

I can run it at medium high on most settings though a lot of tweaking is involved, just installed Windows 7 64bit though so it will probably run a lot better on that.

It is a clever and complex piece of software that very realistically replicates the dynamics of flight. I would quite agree that there appears something rather sad about anyone who would want to perform simulated flights from A to B in real time with no real purpose, but for many it is in fact quite a useful training tool, the data base of world airports is massive including most if not all associated radio navigational aids for instrument flight, VOR/DME, NDB/ADF etc and remarkably all of this ties up accurately with Aerad or Jeppesen aviation charts and landing approach plates used by the commercial pilot, for instance in my case I might want to practice a complex approach and landing procedure into an unfamiliar airfield and in turn set up the programme to include very poor weather conditions, limited visual range, low cloud base, snow, rain etc all of which make the whole exercise more demanding. So, a light entertainment game...in its simplest form yes, but also very much a serious training tool if you have the knowledge to utilise its full potential.
