FLOORED GENIUS is a perfect introduction to the weird, wonderful world of Julian Cope. Spanning Cope's 1979-1982 tenure as the lead singer/bassist of the celebrated UK post-punk group the Teardrop Explodes through his solo PEGGY SUICIDE album, this 20-track collection distils the best of the Teardrop Explodes' three albums and Cope's seven pre-1995 solo outings into one essential collection.
The six Teardrop Explodes songs on FLOORED GENIUS find Cope at the peak of his powers. Teardrop made inventive and colourful rock, encompassing everything from the swirling, neo-psychedelia of the UK pop hit "Treason" to the bright, Turtles-like '60s pop of "Passionate Friend". This is one of the great, "lost" bands of the early '80s. Although Cope's solo albums never managed to match the consistency and vision of the Teardrop Explodes, the solo recordings showcased on FLOORED GENIUS easily hold their own against that band's best work. The selections forsake the unfocused whimsy and indulgent experimentation that occasionally weigh down his albums, instead covering such concise, well-crafted songs as the aching psychedelic pop of "Elegant Chaos", the stately ballad "Charlotte Anne", and the garage-rock raver "World Shut Your Mouth". FLOORED GENUIS is a delight from start to finish.

I was looking for Peggy Suicide funnily enough and stumbled on this. I've lost my double vinyl LP of PS. :x Presumably in the move, or I've leant it to someone and forgotton about it. Anyway. If anyones interested Peggy S is here for £3.99 play.com/Mus…T75

You really want to hunt that down Andy, the Cd version is missing the track "Uptight", that is only featured on vinyl or Cassette....I still have the original Cassette, but ages ago sold my decent tape hi-fi seperate as I just dont play tapes anymore!

This is crying out for a rerelease.

No chance of finding it. Back in my "youth" I'd get mashed, lend out a record; forget I'd done that; never see it again. I'm sure I've gained some that way though:whistling:

Still got a lot of vinyl; nowhere near as muh as I wish I still had. I used to have some (now rare) stuiff. Oh, for a crystal ball. I've got a stoooopidly rare Beatles LP (as in only about 200 copies printed). I plan to retire on it at some point. Beyond that, I used to have some very rare FGTH/Cult/Crampa/Foetus/Soft Cell vinyl. All gone. Still, I've got a pretty mean Batman collection for Daniel (when he hits 30+):p

Sleeping gas, what a bass line and keyboard psychedelia!
