Are these any good or do you get what you pay for?

Gonna hold out for the wireless cameras. I stupidly decided to think over the wireless deal yesterday and missed out

I'd say this is a good price for a cheap unit... We have one and when I have the money I'll definitely be upgrading.

Remote access is terrible to the point of being almost useless.
User interface is rudementary.
Camera quality is less than you would expect.

But if all you want is somethign to watch your shed etc, it'll do you fine.

I'd say get the £55 one as it has a 1tb HDD. It's from the EU warehouse btw.

Will the NVR work with HikVision bullet cameras?

Mine have arrived today :). I was wondering, what hard drives are people using? I’ve taken a pic of what the connections look like - a normal 3.5” HDD should fit fine shouldn’t it?

Yep 3.5" should work. Just use the sata cable to connect the HDD. For a test if I don't have one, you could use your PC's hard drive

I have found the cheaper £25 kit gives a better quality picture.

I've just checked my kits and have found the 900TVL cameras give much better picture quality. The 3000 cameras give a green tint washed-out effect, and give a distorted image.

The 900TVL kit is spot on with image colour and picture quality, no distortion and better definition. They also can handle bright light a whole lot better, as I've found when you aim a 3000 camera towards bright light it causes thick dark lines on the screen image.

Looks like I will be using the cheaper 900TVL kit.

Won't it ask to format the drive?

Oops silly me. Sorry it will, I mean I got some old drives and I use them.

I've got a faulty port on the back of my DVR, it's not the cable, slightest movement of the cable causes it to cut out and come back, and I there is a rainbow effect band moving across the screen. Pain in the rear, anyone else have a prob like this?

If I point the camera's towards bright light, then I get the rainbow band effect.

All my ports on the rear move, not very strong at all. I cant see this kit lasting long as its extremely fragile.

This is definitely not an NVR.
