Not really rechargeable, you can use rechargeable batteries, not supplied!

They only use AA NiMh cells from what I understand, so nothing special.

Good point, I was in a rush to get somewhere else and so I copied straight from the amazon description, which now you mention it is a little misleading. I have edited it to remove the possibility of confusion. You can use regular batteries, your own rechargeable ones, or the packs that they sell, but they do not have a built in rechargeable battery. I bought these for the kids, so my expectations are only that they should be at least as good as the regular kids ones, anything above that will be a bonus.

Their battery packs (on the same page) are £8.99 for the two at the moment, so I guess you could bundle them with this deal for under the regular price of the walkie talkies. We have a house full of rechargeable batteries, so I didn't think to highlight this...

Thanks OP. Could you report back on how good they are please. I think my kids would like these too :-)
Always find the quoted ranges on these things hilarious.......

I used them for years and they always cause issues. Great for kids messing about but never rely on them for anything serious.

If you have line of sight, you MAY get a tad over a couple of km, but most likely it'll be a few hundred metres. And in a built up area, anything over 100m is pushing it!

Yeh, I am looking forward to having some fun testing its limits. Other side of the loch when fishing would be good. Far enough to communicate when chasing cattle on the hill would be great. Not having to walk down to the beach to bring them back for lunch and dinner, well I would buy the company.
Is this any good as a child’s toy? Genuine wuestion

Loads of options on Ebay for a little more if people still want them? One example below:

ebay.co.uk/itm…HZU

I got some last year and they seem to work fairly well especially for the price. If I remember rightly they have 2 levels of output power and the highest one is not legal for PMR446. I have used them up to about 1KM in open country with no problems using eneloops and they last days on standby.
