Modification of fire needed.

"After initial installation by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer problems were experienced in lighting the fire. After 2 visits the Installer suggested that the problems be referred to Focal Point Fires. Before the manufacturers would look at our problem they insisted on copies of the receipt & Gas Safe Installation Certificate. The installation was undertaken on 23/10/11 but the Gas Safe Certificate was only received on 27/11/11 so I was then able to send copies of therequired paperwork to Focal Point. Following subsequent e-mails & telephone conversatuions it transpired that the manufacturers did not have an engineer covering Hampshire even though the head office is in Dorset. I had to obtain a quotation to undertake the work with the Manufacturers supplying the parts. As there was no list of parts required Focal Point initially failed to send the new Control Knob & spindle extension. Resulting from the subsequent e-mail I sent the correct parts were received together with agreement to pay the installer's invoice.
On 06/01/12 the installer returned, fitted the parts & the fire would light as required.
The original control knob was spherical with 3 symbols around the edge & quite difficult to hold to turn whereas the replacemt knob has 4 symbols & a crossbar on the frontmaking it easy to turn & control the fire. A real improvement on the original product.
I would advise anyone interested in purchasing a Purist Fire to ensure it has the new Burner Assembly which I think could be identified by the new shape Control Knob."

Don't tell me she paid almost £600 for it!
One thing to be aware of when having one of these flueless fires installed is the amount of fresh air that needs to be available, i had to put a vent in my wall to accomodate this. It is a building regulation requirement and is to prevent CO build up.

Good point t remember, my sister already had vents in her wall
As a Gas Safe engineer I wouldn't have any gas fire in my house and never a flueless one. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm in the same room and test it frequently.
Good points about vents,alarms etc.

But i think most of you missed the point , it was about the cheap price of the product.
