Flush - Crowdsourced Toilets
2967259.jpg
Flush is a fast and simple toilet finder. It has a slick interface with

beautiful animations and transitions inspired by material design. The

database of tens of thousands of public toilets is stored on the phone

for fast and offline access! Search for a location as well as pan on the

map and we'll show you the nearest public toilets to you. Tap on the

map to get directions provided by Google Maps. Or if you just really

need to find a toilet, tap the directions button and we'll give you

directions to the closest toilet, no need to fiddle about with anything.

The database is constantly expanding and we'll tell you whether there

is a fee, whether you require a key and whether or not they provide

disabled access if we know it.

Features:
. Find public restrooms/toilets quickly and easily
. Locate toilets anywhere around the world, wherever you are
. A database of over 200,000 toilets available, constantly being increased
. A beautiful material design inspired interface
. A quick directions button, to get you directions to a toilet as quickly as possible
. Find whether a toilet has a fee, requires a key or provides disabled/accessibility access
. Works perfectly offline, no internet connection required to find a toilet

The Great British Public Toilet Map was created by The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art. It was designed and built byNeontribe. It is funded by the Nominet Trust. It began as part of the TACT3 research project, funded by the New Dynamics of Ageing programme.

We are looking for sponsorship. Please contact Gail at gail.ramster@network.rca.ac.uk if you would like

to find out more.

What is it?

The map shows toilets that the public can use. This includes those

in shops, cafes etc if they choose to let non-customers use their loo,

such as those in

Community Toilet Schemes. We try not to include those that are for

customer use only.

The data comes from councils, businesses, the OpenStreetMap project and YOU! The data will be available for

others to use under an open licence.

Please help by adding and editing toilets.

Info for councils

The Local Government Association manage a scheme to help councils to

publish ‘open data’ about public toilets, planning applications and

licensing of

premises. Councils are paid £7000 if they publish all three datasets

as part of Local Open Data Incentive Scheme.

incentive.opendata.esd.org.uk

Info for organisations and businesses

If you have lots of toilets that you would like displayed on the map, please contact toiletmap@rca.ac.uk.

Please email the toilet map with your questions, comments and feedback.

The end of the world is nigh if no one can find a bog without an app.

I have crohns disease and I'm a man. I can categorically say that finding a toilet in London that has either an in tact toilet seat or toilet paper is incredibly difficult and stressful.

To add to that, over the years I have taken the **** (pun intended) and chanced my luck in many a hotel lobby to find a decent toilet. I often find myself taking a picture and sending it to my wife as a photographic trophy. This app would be great for me.

As someone with chronic bowel problems I echo the sentiment of others in the desperate bid to find a loo.. I have to " map " my journeys in my mind and work out pubs i can subtly nip in and out of without the stares and questioning looks ...

It's really ridiculous to me that a human need that nearly every single person will need on a daily basis and yet it's so hard to gain access too .

These kind of apps are great especially if in a new area
I know someone with IBS, will be very handy for them.

Yes a lot of public toilets are being closed due to council cutbacks, this can pose difficulties for people with Crohns Disease and other health issues that cause them to need a toilet urgently. There was another app posted today which is 59p that's what prompted me to find free data sources and apps.

Maybe also try this in your phone browser: https//gr…uk/

I also have Crohns. (And whilst we're doing TMI about bog habits... essentially no anal sphincter too, not a helpful mix! Irk.) All attempts at travel are focused around access to loos! So thanks to the OP and the people who've done the app. (There are a few others apps of a similar ilk too.)
Heat...

...must have been the chillies.
Good app I hope it doesn't go down the pan.

that well known saying 'taking the cr*p' ...
i expect it was 'taking the peepee' but why that would be censored now i dunno
the site relaxed all that if not used to cause offense so seems a bit stupid

edit: added own star as despite seeing it many many times cr*p also censored by mod...
infact it was never censored even before the relaxation on language

We need access to toilets in beach areas after 8pm. They're all shut, and no shops allow to use their facilties if you don't buy anything from them.
I am out on the road all day and this will be very handy. Been waiting for someone to invent an app like this. Already used it today and it works well. Well done developer! 10/10
I'm not sure that having a "slick interface with beautiful animations" will be a top issue for anyone needing to find a bog in a hurry.
Ask. Open your mouth and ask someone that's local. Like Billy connelly said. You only truly know a town or city when you know the nearest place to pee is. It was part of his sketch. The great toilet hunt! We've all been there. Like I said ask someone as we are all helpful.. Well most of us

Must have been a crap comment
Useful app, at least I can dump it if it turns out to be cr*p.

You’ll find it’s the end of Labour and Tories, it’s shocking the one thing we all need is being closed more and more over the last twenty years, whatever next take your daily rubbish to the skips yourself ?

Frankly they should be passed with parks from local councils to the NHS to remain open indefinitely - it’s a health issues not a local non funding one. Parks and toilets should be available to all, it’s called exercise.

We have no public toilets here in town now, only the shopping centres (20p at one of them) and most private places state for customer use only, if I wanna spend a penny I’m a customer! And you can only access a toilet during shopping centre opening hours.

Shambles really you can’t pee or poo places without a third degree you aren’t a customer. How about mandating via legislation new retail developments in town must provide 24/7 toilets and upkeep ? Far too logical for Westminster that.

Why dont you create a website with pictures of toilets, the adverts might make you some money
Last toilet I went in and paid for in London was Covent garden with an attendant there and it was stinking

How about more public toilets with adverts inside them to catch the captive audience to fund them !
S##T hot !
In Edinburgh, a publication called ‘ Edinburgh for under 5s’ lists all the loos open to public, really useful, especially for those with kids. I only recently discovered that most Lidl and Aldi supermarkets have public loos

I think sadly the lack in public toilets(in London at least) is due to the sheer number of homeless people and/or drug users taking advantage of them.

Here is one of my favourite finds..you know it's a good one when there are individual cotton towels at the sink

I don’t see why they can’t put vending machines in public toilets with all sorts of toiletries etc that would pay for staff and upkeeping, buy your own pack of tissues to wipe (or BYO), they at Westminster can privatise everything else but public toilets “oh no the common scum must not have access to sanitation, I mean we feed them old sewage-water* via taps inside their own houses so we do enough already, next...”

It’s a disgrace, the victorians realised the importance of sanitation and now we don’t even have anything like we did, Thames Water for years has polluted the main London river (and the rest no doubt!), surely private would have made sure we were using them with upkeep and getting the vending sales.

One thing we we need is a app where we report on its cleanliness and upkeep and report things that need sorted. A toilet shouldn’t be a dangerous or unkept place, it’s a place of sanitation after all!

Had some Afro guy in a bar/club i was in recently...never seen that at home, London, HK, Sydney, Melbourne, Europe etc etc yes, but never in a crappy bar/nightclub past the central belt in Scotland. So 2005 is alive and well apparently, toilets also smelled like they last were deep cleaned in 2005 too, boke.
