Ever notice how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow?

Or wake up ready to write down the Next Great Idea, and get blinded by your computer screen?

During the day, computer screens look good—they're designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn't be looking at the sun.

f.lux fixes this: it makes the color of your computer's display adapt to the time of day, warm at night and like sunlight during the day.

It's even possible that you're staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.

Same, what's great is that it automatically adjusts according to actual time

The sad thing about is that it makes you want to go bed during the night because the screen is so dull looking lol

used this for a long time very good utility!

Does it only work for jailbroken ipad/iphone?

Been using for a year or so, definitely less blue light in the small hours means easier to get to sleep. Recommended!

You can set it to a gradual mode on the Windows version and it will gradually dim during sunset, the setting is called transition speed and the default is 20s but it can be set to an hour. I found it much better than it suddenly going dull.

Interesting app. I thought most laptops have a light sensor which allows for the automatic adjustment of the backlight on the screen. My Dell D630 has this sensor.

Have this on my jailbroken iPhone - excellent little tweak that means I can fall to sleep pretty easily after using it at night.

For Android, I've been using 'Bright Day' which is slightly similar to this. Changes the brightness of the screen gradually over the day depending on your settings. Lowers battery usage too.

Yes, but it doesn't change the colour temperature. From the description, this app detects the backlight being auto adjusted and changes the colour temp to match (Make screen warmer as your backlight dims) - hence reducing the 'blues' as it gets darker. The idea is that otherwise your device is fooling your body as it is simulating daylight.

If you see Stealthx's screenshot, you set it more towards 'daylight' during the day and t'other way at night.

if you don't have an auto adjusting display, then the normal mode is a schedule.

I've been using this for a while and it's been good. A recent update has made an annoying change whereby the app window opens automatically every time I boot into Windows. Does anyone know how to disable this? No option as far as I can tell.

Ignore that, found the answer in their FAQs - doh! Here it is for anyone else who wants to know:

How do I make it hide again? We made f.lux do this when you haven't set your location yet. Our automatic setting is pretty bad (especially if you don't live in the USA.) Click on the location button and set things up, and f.lux will auto-hide again.

It's ok... makes the screen a horrible colour at times

Love it but not good if you are a designer

Is there anything like this for a non jailbroken iphone?

Don't think so, Apple want to rule the world, they don't like common sense things like this.
Before anyone starts, I'm an Apple user

Used this for about a year on my PC and Laptop now. Would defiantly recommend it! The las test version includes a "movie mode" that disables f.lux for a little over 2hrs. IOS version requires a jailbroken device

Ha ha. You could negate the effect of the software by keeping a white LED USB plug-in night light!

I previewed this in the daytime and thought it was absolutely awful. I tried it out again at night and it made my screen seem warmer and more pleasant than ever before!

been using this for years added heat
