Very good prices for these Flying Lantern bundles ... Get a pack of 10 for just £13.95 or a pack of 4 for just £6.45 @ Zavvi. Buying the 10 pack means these work out at around £1.40 each - cheapest I have seen yet!

Flying Lanterns, also known as Chinese Flying Lanterns, will add an exciting new element to any event. Their mysterious glow can be seen climbing several miles in the sky for around 20 minutes. Flight ceases when all the fuel has been burnt and the flame subsides then as the air in the lantern cools it will gently float back to the ground for a safe landing. The Lanterns will fly to more than 1,000 meters in altitude, providing an amazing show for all.

Hand Crafted Authentic Chinese Flying Lanterns soar to new heights; you wont believe your eyes.

Made from flame resistant paper, it is 100% biodegradable; Night Glow Flying Lanterns are safe, fun and spectacular for any outdoor event, great at Barbecues etc.

The lantern measures 36 x 36 x 90cm when fully inflated.

Been reading a lot of news stories that these products are causing difficulties for farmers and farm animals when they land. Best avoided.

Seriously what are the chances of it landing in a farm ? Maybe if you live somewhere remote wiht alot of farms then yh it could land in a farm. But who cares ? whats the worst that could happen. It'll land on a cows head and it wont be able to see. Pffft disaster

Google it, I did cos I love these really helped my dd move on after a house move but some of it seems to be more related that as long grass is cut and farmers blades will cut through the metal and grass with metal be fed to cows. Telegraph ]http//ww…tml ran an article on how a couple's wedding was spoilt as the lanterns caused a house fire!
Farmers are really kicking up about it, Times says no animals have been killed, and rspca is now looking into design, coastguards are only complaining that they would like advance notice of them being let off so that they know its not a distress signal.

Wonder how much were some farmers responsible with their cows health with feeding them steroids etc how did mad cow disease start again :whistling:

Responsibility is a word that comes to mind, and as long as it is nowhere near farms and the right precautions are taken, these are truly a sight to behold!

Almost 100% in a rural area.

Unspent fuel will continue to burn in a crop field.

But as you say - "who cares"?

Get orf my larnd u townies (unless its a bad year and I need to buy my new Range Rover and I want some of your Tax money)

Coastguards in our area have warned against using these in coastal areas.

They cause false alarms as people ring the coastguard believing they are a flare from a boat in trouble. This means that the emergency services go to search and assist at great cost for nothing.

Litter.

another pleasure i now feel guilty about. life wont be worth living soon. any thing pleasurable will do harm some where. i guess the people posting about the problem only ride bicycle the've made them selve out of recycled cornflakes packets. driving a car causes problems to everyone but i dont reckon many would give it up. and as for paper report they overblow everything to sell papers. AIDS, global warming amd now we're all gonna die in 2012 because the incas say so....

Most people would care. That's why it's important they know the dangers and don't just rush out and buy this chinese tat.

Three reasons to vote cold:

1. They are a fire hazard
2. They cause litter
3. They are chavvy (especially at a wedding).

;-)

Three reasons to vote hot:

1. They give pleasure
2. They make people believe in aliens
3. They stop the insane from going out killing people

These thing are really cool, people were setting loads off at Reading, but its true you dont think of the damage they could do.

I voted hot because they are very pretty but only if used responsibly.

Surely they are no worse than fireworks???Even better....the lanterns are silent.

I live in Leicester, and apart from Nov 5 and New Year, we also have the largest Diwali celebration in the world (outside of India) each year.
I have woken many mornings to find spent rocket fireworks in my garden.......but never found a flying lantern.
I have some of these and think they are excellent. Logging onto zavvi now to get some more, cheers.

Cheers m8 I love these

god i'm boring . . .they're a real fire hazard

Went camping recently on the Norfolk coast and there were dozens of these going off every single night. Me and my brother did wonder if they were distress signals at first as we weren't sure what they were. Kinda guessed as there was so many that it was just people letting them off. I was just glad none landed on my tent......:?

Well worth the fun, thanks Cat

they go up, they use their fuel and go out, they fall down.

only way i can see them causing a fire is if you do it too close to a tree or do it on a very windy day.

Does this mean aliens are not real? and crop circles are caused by these? Dam clever those chinese lanterns, had me fooled.

Hope nobody posts a cheap BBQ deal....Think of all the inocent cows that will be killed because of it. Not to mention the smoke hazzard.

Mmmmmm , i can just taste those lovely BBQ steaks delicious.

i was dj'ing at a wedding recently at a country estate. The guests let off about 50 of these lanterns.

it was a very windy evening, and the hotel was surrounded by trees. Most of the lanterens got stuck in the trees causing the staff to run about trying to free them, one lantern almost flew into an open window in the hotel.

i was offered the chance to sell these as part of my DJ business, but on that one experiance, i decided against it.

i cant wait to see the first lawsuit arrising from a lantern setting a building or a farmers field on fire.

I hadn't thought of them causing a potential signal problem. The articles I read just highlighted the problems caused by their metal frame construction when they come back down to Earth. When I initially saw them for sale, I thought "Wow!!". But now I don't think I would buy until the design is improved.

If instructions had been followed the lanterns should not have been released in the circumstances of your top paragraph, and i think that a bit harsh " you can't wait for a fire caused by one of these lanterns"

Good idea. Alright on a still night in a third world country where there is nothing much of value to burn; but these things make no sense in our country and climate!

As for anyone saying on that occaision they shouldn't have launched them in bad weather; I wish any hotel staff luck in telling the bride her chavvy climax to the wedding reception is off due to bad weather!

Try telling the wedding guests they cant use these laterns when there all drunk. I doubt any of them would even bother reading the instructions.
