After our tablet for the kids was sat on (and broken), I've done a lot of looking around for something inexpensive yet not painfully slow to replace it. This one seems ideal, and hopefully is of use to somebody else - I've ordered mine and can report back when it arrives.

For those willing to spend a bit more for games etc. the Teclast elsewhere on the site (https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/teclast-master-t8-android-tablet-127-4gb-ddr3l-ram-64gb-rom-127-gearbest-2866938) is a great deal. We however have a toddler, an the main use is watching iPlayer on car journeys, using it for Plex on the TV, and occasionally the CBBC app, or checking the baby monitor. We have an iPad for adult use.

Specs include 2GB of RAM (1GB isn't enough based on our last tablet), a decent processor, and a really good resolution on the screen of approx 2000 x 1500. I found some on sale in Argos etc. that even had a width of 600 pixels - staggering given the minor cost in putting something decent in. A bonus is that it is reportedly free of the pre-installed and unmovable junk that our old Lenovo suffered from.

This won't set the world alight, but seems like the best non-terrible tablet in the sub £100 category - it makes a review of the best 2017 tablets (https://techtablets.com/2017/12/top-3-android-tablets-2017/).

To get the listed price, use the code 'GBTPC08'

Again hope this is a realistic assessment, and of use to somebody else, and save you wading through all the junk out there I had to.

on 11.11 its even reach 89.9 USD
You realise you have no warranty on this and may have to pay import duties and VAT when it eventually arrives (Chinese seller ).
Samsung Tab A 7" seems a decent alternative from Argos for a few quid more £99 argos.co.uk/pro…379 and you can get it straight away and has 2 years warranty . Could end up cheaper if you get stung for Import Duties etc on your "Grey Import ".

That's not even close to an alternative

As long as you choose a slow delivery method you won't get stung by customs.

I wouldn't use Gearbest myself though.

I did consider the Samsung but the resolution of 1280 x 800 is unacceptable. I might only be expecting to get 18-24 months from it, but such a poor quality display for £100 just won't do.

It is a fair point about import duties, and they could push it over the £100 point, though even then there is nothing that comes close at the moment. Gearbest are also a bit Marmite. I've bought 2 or 3 things previously and they have been fine, but I paid on my credit card in case things don't arrive. I did also have a good think before ordering from them, and can see why you wouldn't want to.
I've ordered loads of stuff, including this tablet, from GearBest - never been stung for import taxes. Always chosen free delivery and been prepared to wait a month for stuff to arrive.

The tablet itself is built very well, is not bloated with useless crap, and the screen is excellent. The battery is its only letdown - streaming video on WiFi its going to be dead after a couple of films. I don't game on it but I'm guessing maybe 2 hours of gaming.
PayPal have just refunded me for gearbest failing to deliver in spite of claiming that they had sent it on 3 different days from 3 different locations, fortunately DHL backed up my claim.

The tablet itself is actually only average, you can get something similar for the same or lower price, especially in the sales, you will save yourself a lot of worrying and potentially grief

Um, not sure there is anything comparable for under a ton, or even close. I have this tablet and it's excellent. Fast enough for most tasks, a lovely fully laminated retina screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio - something of a rarity these days.
