FNF iFIve Mini 4S 7.9" retina tablet £76.41 @ Gearbest

This has been posted a few times before in the past, but it's back under 80 quid again, so worth re-posting. It's a really great tablet basically, a bit of a bargain.

As a reminder, this is a beautifully built tablet with fully laminated iPad mini retina screen, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and micro SD slot. With wireless AC.

The tablet's software is a little old - it's Android 6.0 - but the ROM is pretty much stock.

Screen resolution is 2048x1536, nice. I mean really nice. It's nippy too.

It's kind of like a 2014 Kia Sportage - looks good, great value but has the occasional quirk which will remind you that it's not really an Audi e.g. battery life is OK, but not going to last the day.

That said, with the money you save over a similarly specified tablet in the UK, you could buy a few power banks to accompany it. And a bunny. And a 70 pack of mini Haribo from Iceland. And a few pennies for the Sportage fund. Just saying.

P.s. It's Gearbest. You know the drill.

P.p.s. "Feel the Classic Touch" lol

its shame they have put such a great screen on it but then left only 2gb ram in it, even 3gb would make this more appealing.

A built in ice making compartment would be handy too, but at £76 it is simply too much to expect.

Do these use a standard android charge port ?

Yep

I've just remembered, the stock AOSP keyboard is a bit naff. I downloaded the Google GBoard keyboard which works much better for me

Also, iPad Mini 3 cases sort of fit. You need to lift the tablet out to charge though which is a bit of a pain. Gearbest have an official case for the iFive Mini 4s for about £12.00.

Any reports of spyware yet???

2gb ram is this still 2010?

How much RAM do you think is necessary for an android device then?

If it says so, that's good enough for me. I just can't see where? I only see support for H.264 / x264

I have this tablet and the video you linked to played with no problems.

Edit: on further testing would only play in portrait via built in gallery app landscape made it crash for some reason. Wouldn't play via MX player Pro. Plays fine on VLC but again not in landscape.

Further testing: jellyfish-10-mbps-hd-hevc.mkv plays in landscape with no problems, where as it couldn't play jellyfish-3-mbps-hd-hevc-10bit.mkv in landscape so it seems it has a problem with he 10bit files, but only in landscape. Even plays jellyfish-120-mbps-4k-uhd-hevc-10bit.mkv in portrait. Haven't tried any higher bit-rates.

Just to say, my FNF iFive Mini 4S is rooted and running Greenify and L Speed scripts to try to increase battery life. They do effect the performance especially L Speed on battery option.

Thanks for your comments. Out of interest, how many hours of screen on time are you getting for this on average, after a full charge? The specs are really quite astonishing for the price, the only thing that's mentioned consistently as a negative in online reviews is the battery life.

It is actually a little are hard to say as I don't use it that often and have the WiFi off when not used to save power. I think 6-7 hours on minimum brightness. The tablet is quite bright on minimum. So can make reading in bed difficult even with a screen filter to reduce the brightness.

At least 4gb minimum wouldn't touch anything for free with any less unless it was a bash about speaker

You wouldn't touch a free Android device, if it only had 3GB of RAM? Jesus

I bought one six months ago, it lasted about four months before i had to replace with something better. The build quality is a real mixed bag; really flimsy plastic back panels top and bottom that break far too easily. The memory is an issue as it struggles to multitask. The screen is nice but don't expect to be able too get a screen protector for this, i couldn't get one anywhere. Personally i wouldn't recommend this.

I bought a iPad Mini 4 case for one of these, on the basis that the it is iPad Mini clone and it did not fit, the tablet was too fat. However, I still wonder if a iPad Mini 2 case would fit?

I would think a screen protector for an iPad mini would work?

Why? Anything above 4GB RAM on Android is pointless because if the OS is doing its job, it shouldn't be allowing that many apps to run at once. My Huawei P9 Lite has 3GB RAM but no matter how many apps I open, it'll never show less than 800mb free and usually has 1.4GB free. How many apps do you switch back and forth between at a time anyway?

He's missing out on some cracking devices! Some people just love the numbers game - Cores, GHz, GBs you name it.

By the way fantastic screen, great as an e-reader. Obviously a 10.1" would be better, but I can't find a android 10.1" tablet with a retina display for twice this price.

Hi - is there additional tax payable on this ?

Generally not if you use the slow, free postage option.

Thanks - does that cover import tax and custom duty ?

Took a last minute punt on these. Chose free delivery. Hope it turns up.

Should make a good reader.

No. But, according to previous posts, choosing free delivery lessens the chance of tax/customs. But there is always a chance.
