Hi Chris, do you mind if I pick your brains?

Many years ago I used to write songs with a friend, fast forward to lockdown and we've been video chatting and got the bug back. Funny enough I've looked at this unit thinking about being able to record my vocals and also occasionally a bit of bass before sending it over to my friend so he can add his parts. Question is, how easy is this to use? I have no home recording experience at all, just a pc and a Peavey mic from my old DJing days to sing into (I'm aware that would probably need upgrading but for now it would do). I have looked at reviews and a lot of the jargon regarding latency, DAW's etc goes over my head but I'm assuming all that would come. Ideally I would like to be able to plug in and record without too much hassle and maybe improve the sound of my vocals.

Thanks

Hopefully not stealing Chris' thunder, but this would be all you'll need to get up and running and quite quickly. It comes with Ableton Live Lite which is a kinda cut down version of Ableton Live but will suit your needs for the foreseeable. It records tracks using the interface using your typical jacks and outputs to (active) monitors and/or headphones.

They're pretty straightforward to use and set up, I'm a numpty when it comes to this and I managed to do it! also there is SO much info on the Internet to help you along.

One thing you might need to check is your PC specs, provided it's not years and years old and has a reasonable processor you'll be fine. Happy to advise if you list specs.
Thanks Hotmeal, think I'll give this a go then

Thanks very much
GAK have Komplete Updates/Upgrades at 15% off and they are already half price in the NI sale so this is very cheap.
Here's one example - GAK - eBay

He could do that with the solo version, no need to pay extra on this one. I've been using the solo one to record guitar into my Mac and it has a separate line for a microphone too

Really good point actually, hadn't considered that. Could save £20ish depending on needs or if there's a need to record 2 instruments at once.

Good call, are the preamps the same on the solo version? I'd pay the £20 diff if these are slightly better.

These things are decent, good price, recording needs fast CPU but you can also tweak most laptops to run a bit faster (check article on Ableton website about Windows) when just using a single input at a time.
Whats the latency like with vsti’s and guitar? I got an old line 6 ux 2. Not sure I’d get anything more from this but voted hot

Hi guys. Yes, I hadn't thought about the solo when ordering. I'd looked at these models a few weeks back and had been pondering. When I saw the deal here I leapt in without thinking about the solo. The solo is probably all I ever need but to be fair, for the sake of £20 I do have the extra feature if I ever did need it. Cheers guys.
Went for the Solo - it's in stock and was only £82.74 delivered. Sweet!

And there goes my argument for only being £20 difference
Focusrite keep adding free software to your account if you register Focusrite or Novation hardware with them.
Sometimes as often as every month so it's worth taking a look.
Some of it will only show in your account for a short period so if you only login infrequently you will miss it.

I think possibly that Focusrite and Novation run different schemes even though they are both owned by the same company!
There's a thread on KVR where individuals update when new stuff is added to their account, so if you subscribe to that you shouldn't miss anything.
It might be for Novation only and there may be a separate thread for Focusrite!
I only have a Novation so not sure.
Here it is: kvraudio.com/for…356

Note: Sometimes with these companies, if you buy a higher priced product you get a better software bundle.
As they add more stuff to it over time, if you sell the software you might end up paying no more for the better hardware.
Also went for the solo, many thanks for posting been pondering the choice between that and a few others for a week now. £82.74 sealed the deal.

Solo just arrived and is now set up in Windows 10 - very straightforward process. I am now downloading some of the free software that comes with it (that I probably don't want!)
