4059789_1.jpgSo you can get the printer for £134.99 instead of the next best price, which is £174.99 from the Fokoostech shop.

It's an easy to assemble 3D printer, you just need to unfold it, fasten four screws and it's ready to go. You can operate it via its 3.5" touchscreen.

I paid about £160 for this and am very happy with it. I've made many functional prints like wall mounts for IT hardware.

Have a look at some of the YouTube reviews, RCwithAdam and MakeWithTech especially.

The Odin-5 F3 is not perfect but seems to be a good start in FDM 3D Printing.

It's popular enough to have a bit of a community. The "FOKOOS Official User Group" Facebook group is the best place for assistance and best avenue for official and unofficial support.

You will want to replace the V-Wheels when you can. Mine was fine out of the box but I can see the wheels already starting to need cleaning after about 48 hours print time and will need replacing (cheap) in the medium term.

I've ordered an accessories kit from the amazon dot de (~£30 delivered) which contains more spares inc. ribbon cables, hot ends and wheels.

Will probably order a load more wheels separately anyway.

WD40 DRY PTFE lube (not normal WD40) is what I've seen recommended most of lubrication. It's £9 per can in person from Screwfix. Some say Super Lube.

Clean the bed with Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) before each print.

Plenty to upgrade and fiddle with, if and when you want to.

It works with Octoprint, it will take an BL Touch sensor with some fiddling, and has a cheap (~£10) WiFi upgrade available. There are alternative firmwares available (Kings being the most often mentioned), upgrades to cooling.

Most common hiccups I've seen to perfect prints (other than tighten/loosen/level/align/configure stuff) are bed needs the middle raising slightly (which Crazy Will Tech Show solved by just folding aluminium foil in the middle) and the V-Wheels replacing. I'll be doing both but the print quality has been good enough out-of-the-box that I've not done it yet.

There are profiles available for PrusaSlicer (supposedly, I've never tried) and for Cura (provided by the community). It comes with an skinned older version of Cura but I went straight to the latest from the website.

At £135 I'm very very tempted to buy another.

Thank you for the tip re accessory kit as oos on Amazon US and also on FoKoos own website

I have it, always on sale around this price
Got it for 125 a few months back

Only printed a couple of things on it, pretty decent especially for the price

You've put me off buying it by saying it's been cheaper

Anyone have this? Also how much is this usually when on sale (asking because tracking sites such as camel don’t include voucher)

Finally what 3d printers do you guys recommend and price range?

Ps this would be my first time buying one (if i do) (edited)

if you can afford it and just want something close to plug and play the bambu labs P1P/X1 look too be solid printers. the ecosystem is closed tho, unlike most other 3d printers. £679

atm i do like the look of the sovol SV-06, linear rods, direct drive, bed probe, PEI bed sheet, silent step drivers. £220~

if you want something a bit smaller then id recommend the KINGROON KP3S, linear rails on x and y. direct drive, silent stepper driver. from £140. can always add on stuff like pei and bed probes

I started out with an original Ender 3. i wouldn't recommend creatily tbh, they are great if you want to mod them but they have fallen behind in terms of features at stock and their support is nothing special, mostly all community driven.

If anything, id avoid anything using V-rollers, especially on X and Y. should be at least linear rods/rails for those. as you can go much faster on acceleration and speed with these, on top of them being less maintenance and more precise. pretty much everyone ships with silent stepper drivers now. direct drive is usually better than bowden, PEI bed sheets are amazing, bed probes are very useful especially on larger beds.

if you want a project, look into a Voron. you can pick up kits for a V0.1 for ~£300 (printed parts +£60) or a Trident for about ~£700 (printed parts +£100) they aint cheap but these are some of the best printers you can build today (Vzbot/Ratrig/HevORT are a few others too) (edited)

The voucher requires you to switch to Amazon as the supplier, and is now £50 instead of 50%. Making it £225. I wish I'd bought that second one at 50% now!
    seagulls77's avatar
It will be back down in price if u wait. This happened previous to me as I was looking at getting it for my 10yo son, then it went bk up to full price then went down by £50 20%, 35% then 50% again. Just keep a watch on it.
  5. nekoangel's avatar
    It's often at this price.

Went mine back as no matter what I'd do it wouksnt print well (my ender 3 blew it out of the water)

On paper its great and it can print lovely but I sent my back after tinkering for ages.

I gave the deal heat but now I've bought a sovol sv 06 which looks insane for the money (edited)

    Ah, missed it.

Opinions, please. If they were both the same price, would buy this or and Ender v2?
    andysfast's avatar
That depends on what you want, fokoos is basic but has a lot of menu options, quiet and fast, easy to upgrade.
Ender is more complex, bells n whistles, noisy and better build quality.
I’m sure there are comparisons on the net, and others on here that have both. You could do a fokoos search on here because it’s been on offer a few other times.

Received mine yesterday. Watched a few lengthy video reviews with some tips. Have set up today.

Even with the insight provided in the videos it has been a bit of a faff and not as straight forward as I would have liked.

That said, after threatening to hit it with a sledge hammer it did eventually start printing the test cube. About half way through it now.

I'm a little concerned that either the supplied micro sd card is a bit flaky or the card reader - though time will tell. Once this finishes printing I will see if I can perhaps do another one of their tests and/or have a go with cura and something off of thingyverse.

    How are y'all getting on?
    andy_spoo's avatar
I've watched many reviews on 3D printers over the years and the conclusion is that the supplied SDcards are all as flaky as hell! Bin it.
And if the printer has power recovery enabled then switch it off. All that does is constantly write to the card and cause stuttering in the print leading to poor prints.

    Looks fantastic for the price.
    Volcano nozzle
    Direct drive
    Dual z axis
    Silent 32 bit motherboard
    Touchscreen

All reasonably pricey upgrades on similar machines like the Ender 3

I wonder how something like a BLTouch works on it though (edited)

Check the post from Nexy a little bit above. That's some good tips to start

Good price, decent printer. Do your research, 3D printing isn't plug and play
  13. m1chau's avatar
Better take a look at the fokoos facebook group. These printers have a big quality control problem. Wheels are rubbish, people have all sorts of problems with these. Also if you buy from Amazon directly, and not their store they are not going to help you in case of any problems.

It's my first printer so I cant compare it to anything, and i like fiddling so these problems are not deal-breakers for me, but it's something to remember.

On the positive side it runs 100mm/s , accepts modded firmware, works brilliantly with bl touch and octoprint.

If you get it remember to remove film from under the glass on the heat bed. (edited)
    andysfast's avatar
I have read a few problems but like you said, nothing big and I think it adds to the fun, there’s a YouTube video that explains how to set it up properly including all the bearings if anyone needs it. I built my first printer myself from scratch a few years ago and that really was fun, it took me ages to get it to print. I’ve had the fokoos printing at over 300% and the quality was still good. (for those who don’t own one and only read the specs)

    On tiktok? What?
  20. spaceinvader's avatar
Anyone know how it compares to the Voxelab Aquila X2 (@ £160)?
GF, bless her, bought me the MALYAN MA10 for xmas at about £190, which had major bits missing, useless instruction because they change the components regularly, it being a hodge-podge whatever's cheap, an was generally awful. Had to return it and I've got the above waiting for me to collect, but might get this if its a lot better. (edited)

My son bought an Anycubic resin printer and I was so impressed I went out and bought one myself. The bed levelling is a doddle, there are no massive currents and it prints slightly fast, there is also a massive difference in print quality.

On the downside, the resin is more expensive, it's toxic if not handled correctly and the build plates are usually smaller. Fumes aren't the problem I first thought of as I have my printer set up in a spare room.

Come and join us in the discussion here: hotukdeals.com/dis…221
    SnakeSpotter's avatar
I think the toxicity aspect would kill it for me.

I've sent mine back. I've had two now and they just don't compare to my ender 3.

I know I should tinker more but the initial software and profiles etc are just garbage. For such a fantastically idea of a machine the software side let's it down massively.

Also one of my wheels was free spinning on the gantry. And it's jot the one you can tighten
    stinkybeard's avatar
    What a nightmare.

I wouldn't say my initial experience was smooth, but I haven't had any real issues since I got over the initial hurdle (supplied microsd card not reading).

The prints I have done so far have been very nice quality. I have been using the Ender 3 profile in Ultimaker cura.

In the end I got the Ender 3 V2, and I am very glad I did. (edited)
