FOPP & SELECTED HMV STORES - Swap Shop / Get £1 credit for any CD or DVD you sell!

As title states, this probably has been posted ages ago but this will be handy for new users of HUKD or people that haven't seen!

You can take in almost any CD or DVD as long as the CD's aren't compilations or singles, and they take pretty much any DVD, even those rubbish bargain compilation ones!

It's a flat rate of £1 per item and then they sell them for £2, I got This Means War on DVD for £2.

Worth it if you have loads of rubbish old CD's and DVD's that aren't worth anything or if you pick up at bootsales/gumtree/eBay etc joblots of CD's for pennies!

You can put the credit towards anything in store

"Took a load up on Saturday, where they guy behind the counter was warning people to get their exchanges in quick, as the promotion could be ending in a week or so.

So be warned, if you haven't traded in your CDs and DVDs yet, DO IT NOW!" - wondermouse 12/11/12

Worth checking your local store first - my local HMV only gives 50p per item.

Oh, also, what they take is at the discretion of individual stores, so they won't actually take any old crap - they have to at least have a chance of selling it.

That's rubbish then, should be a £1, in HMV Bristol and Fopp Clifton it's £1 per item

Bizarre, as it's HMV Bristol I was on about! I was in there the other week and ended up taking all the stuff to Fopp instead as HMV were only offering 50p. Well, that's good news if they've changed it then.

Yeah it's odd, i've read in various forums the staff will be like no sorry it's 50p just because you've bought in stacks of crap, or if the member of staff is a dick, they have little barcodes at the side of the till that scan 50p, £1, £2, £5 & £10. The guy in Fopp said that the other barcodes are most likely going to be used for high priced DVD's and Boxsets

Also by discretion they don't take compilation CD's, as they don't sell, but DVD's they take any old crap, Rental copies, stuff that even comes free with those monthly magazines, FOPP's second hand stock is awful!

Hmm, interesting; I've got a box of ex-rental stuff upstairs destined for charity because I didn't think they'd take it.

In the mall in Luton there is a HMV and That's Entertainment within spitting distance of each other. That's Entertainment sell certain cd's and dvd's at 6 for £5, so you buy them and sell to HMV for £6 in credit. Cant see this working, but will drop in at HMV tomorrow and ask.

The rules are:-
No imports allowed.
Rental Only copies not allowed.
Must have a barcode.
Acceptance is at staff's discretion. They won't take "anything".

50p in Glasgow HMVs; £1 in Glasgow Fopps.

I work for HMV in my area and it is just 50p per dvd/cd at the moment, it was trialled at £1 but is now just half that

A lot of CDs I traded in in fopp had no barcodes also I traded in a few Randal copies

Went to HMV leicester, watford and st albans branches and all of them told me its 50p nationwide, so if you get £1 per an item then thats pretty much luck really

Ah well FOPP are still definitely doing £1 and item as I did some the other day, I sell my stuff there as Fopp tends to be cheaper than HMV

It's 50p in HMV and £1 in Fopp. It's never been £1 in HMV

You need to change the title of this thread or it will end up expired ...

Definitely has been, did some a while back, but by the looks of things it's changed or depends on your luck

Did you actually take anything into HMV or are you just guessing? X)

It's not " your luck" . It's £1 in Fopp and 50p in HMV I know because I work for HMV. It doesn't matter if it's a deluxe cd a DVD box set or blu ray you still get 50p

It was £1 at HMV as well, but this was under the temporary trial price to see if anyone would trade in any of their CDs or DVDs

What about PS2 games? Got loads of the of them gathering dust in a box in the spare room

Is there a specific place where these dvd are because iv never seen them at my local and its got two floors?

Will they take singles? One example is the Peter Andre song 'beautiful girl'. Noticed this lying around and was curious if my local would take it. If so, I'll rip them all and take them down tomorrow!

PS2 isnt accepted, only the lastest consoles, and it can be taken to any till within the store, and no, no CD singles, i asked these guys a heap of questions before trading in loads of my discs, only acceptable so far is DVDs and CD artists, no compliations, important, singles and they also have the right to refuse if the disc is scratched to a certain extend or the value of the CD/DVD isnt worth trading in.

Read the OP.

ive got "due to baby on way" a fair few dvds to clear out to make room! is this the best and easiest way to sell them? musicmagpie is a joke! cheers.

The individual stores have to wait until they have enough stock that has been traded in before they put out a dedicated section . They won't take singles or PS2 games I'm afraid

You've got to remember it's only for instore credit.
But it's good to get rid of a load of rubbish CD's and get something good that's worth a lot to sell on!

What is fopp lol ?

Just make sure you check CeX first, I traded in a DVD the other week and got £9 for it. Pretty good considering I paid £5.

Try CeX, you can check the cash/credit prices you get in store on the website. I have always got what was quoted online.

Best to check on the same day as they change prices overnight.
I got caught out recently when I traded something I'd checked the day before.

If you want to convert the HMV credit from this into cash, there are a number of items that can be sold for the same value in CeX.

Guuess you could spend all day doing a stock transfer from that's entertainment and HMV, making a £1 a time.....

Was one of the Titanic DVD releases, I got £9 store credit. Pretty good considering the blu-ray is out next Monday and is £13 at Amazon (and the DVD itself is only about £6.89 on Amazon)
