Rare chance to see a truly exciting F1 race for free on terrestrial TV with all the build up. The Azerbaijan (Baku) street circuit is possibly even more fun than Monaco - plenty of chances for thrills & spills, with two cars totalled yesterday in practice when they pranged into a wall at the same spot.

Steve Jones presents coverage of the eighth round of the season at the Baku City Circuit (Start-time 2.00pm), where Nico Rosberg triumphed last year on his way to winning the drivers' championship. With Rosberg having retired, his former teammate Lewis Hamilton will be looking to taste victory here this time around, but will have to produce a much-improved performance on his fifth-placed finish 12 months ago.

Tomorrow - you can catch the build up at 1pm C4 radiotimes.com/tv-…17/

Today (Saturday) - the fun starts again on C4 @ 12.25 followed by live qualifying all afternoon radiotimes.com/tv-…17/

NB anticipating the whiners who normally whinge about Freebie posts highlighting something on free TV - hold your fire & see if other people welcome the information first - thanks

Half of the races this year are live on Channel 4. I wouldn't call it a rarity.
Apparently Eastenders is free on TV too.

Fail, it's not free to watch the BBC!
Great post! Given me a laugh this morning!!
Anyone know where's a good place to watch the previous ones? Kodi etc?
You may get to see 65/70% of the race and the rest will be adverts and that poison dwarf pretending to be friends with everybody he's ever heard of.
I listen to the races then watch the highlights.
Works for me.

Alternatively, depending on your taste, availability, etc. you could watch the race (without adverts) on C4, and listen the radio commentary.

C4 don't do adverts during race part of the full race shows, but do in the highlights version. But then, if it's a highlights show, they already cut parts of the race out anyway.
First I thought your post is a joke. Therefore, to be technically correct you have to pay for a TV licence for all streaming devices. Not a freebee.

FYI the live races have no adverts in the race itself. The extended highlights do, however.

To be totally correct and pedantic, you don't HAVE to pay for a TV licence. You are supposed to, and should do though.
Cold. Not a deal

It's up to the individual. We all make choices. My choice is not to get a £1000 fine and therefore not a freebie.

Not sure why anyone would want to do this. Ben Edwards and DC make a great comms team.

Yes, googled it and C4 are showing 1/2 the races this year. Number 4 today.

Nor me - I do miss the Sky (especially Brundle) coverage, but not the bills.

I do find DC a bit annoying, but as I'm rarely around to watch the race live, it's something I can live with.

I did, so thank you.

To anyone, does CH4's F1 coverage terminate at the end of 2018 or 2019?
Thanks.

Don't remember seeing your name on the production list? X)

I'm more likely to thank the series link I set up on my Freesat box in March though. X)

Sky have exclusive rights to all F1 broadcasting from 2019 on - any highlights package available to freesat/view channels after that will need to be agreed with them, and F1 of course.

I don't know if there is any deal in place for 2018 though.

On a similar note, I thought that the British GP itself was regarded as one of the UK Sport "crown jewels" - anyone know if it will still be available after 2018? (Assuming the race itself survives, though Liberty Media do seem to appreciate the traditional races compared to Mr E.)

It ends in 2018. There will be no more terrestrial TV coverage because Sky are a bunch of C****
Thank you Alg and Wings18

I'll download the races, I'm not paying Sky.
Streaming via Kodi is a waste of time, due to buffering.

I can see a steady decline of interest and attendance in F1. Circuits not wanting to renew their contracts.
100% of F1 races air for free on German channel RTL, which anyone in the UK can get if you move your Satellite dish to 19.2 degrees (Sky is on 28 degrees)

So if you are a F1 fan, and you have an old Sat dish on side of your house, just move it a bit to the right, and job done!
Stick Radio 5 Live on for the commentary unless you like German commentary that is, and job done!

Except RTL are also coming to the end of their contract, and rumours are that they are looking at pay channels there as well.

I didn't know that. Well 10 more races to watch and enjoy for free in lovely HD so that'll do for now.

They've aired it for 25 years, so lets hope they extend it again
