Actually I'm wrong, not a mini mobo, 30cm x 25cm is about normal, Dual Gbit to make it a gateway router box if you wanted, serial and parallel legacy ports for older devices, optical bitstream output to hook up to a surround amp ideal for gaming/theater systems

Grab it while you can....

This has dropped in price by 25% from yesterday.......good buy for those wanting a cheap upgrade.
Was gonna buy this board myself the other week but I had a nice AGP graphics card to make use of,so decided not to.Was a serious contender.

Yeah moving away from SocketA was painful due to cost of having to get new graphics.

Good value MBoard...Voted hot...

This isnt a "Mini motherboard"!

Thanks for this schizoboy

please all noted that cpu of 939-pin is more expensive than 940-pin (am2) model.

I'm not sure that's true, you can pick up a lot of single core s393 processors cheap. Here's ]eBuyer's selection.

What does Beerman have against this mobo then?

Good someone please tell me if this is worth upgrading from a Elitegroup 755-A?
Thanks.

need a bit more info than that!

What have you got running in your system?
What are you wanting to upgrade to?

Well, The Elitegroup 755-A is a socket 754 and this is a socket 939, so a straight swap would be a no go, but I can comment on the board which I bought a few weeks ago when it last fell to this price.
For this price it is an absolute bargain, pretty much every connection you would want, I mean 6 x SATA, 2 x Firewire, 2 x Gigabit lan ports,1 x coax and optical, SLi. I bought this and a XFX7900gs graphics card for £140, then got a 2 GHz 3200+ processor off ebay for £30 which this board has overclocked to 2.55 Ghz 4000 and a bit+ with the standard heatsink fan, and there may be a bit more as it has not crashed yet and is rock stable, and any game of the moment is no problem.
If you want to build a cheap gameing pc, or the base for a HTPC, you can't really go wrong at this price, I mean in a years time you could probably flog it on ebay for 20 quid, or with some of the muppets on ebay you may make a profit.

Please can somebody recommend a CPU and fan/heatsink to buy with this preferably overclockable - looking to spend about £50 but could be inclined to spend more if a better deal.

Also, do I need to buy a new case for this type of motherboard? My PC's got an EPOCH EP-8RDA motherboard which is ATX, so I assume it's fine. ciao.co.uk/EPo…550

Can anyone recommend some bargain RAM too?

Many thanks!

Steve

here is a link to the range of 939 processors available at Ebuyer ]click. I have recently upgraded to the AMD Athlon64 3700+ 2.2ghz with 1mb level 2 cache(£42.35).

Have a look at the customer reviews on ebuyer, you get a good idea of what folk are overclocking their processors to,the one I mentioned, someone is overclocking it to 2.7ghz with no problems(overclocking is not for me tbh).

The heatsink and fan I purchased is this ]click £5.40,again it gets good reviews on Ebuyer and my OH who did the build was very impressed with it.

1gb crucial RAM here ]click £49.06.

Hope this helps:)

Can't you just cut the extra pin off ?

Excellent info, thanks!

Is the 3200 speed RAM going to be OK for gaming? Or should I go higher?

Thanks,
Steve

I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 3000+, if I buy a 3800+ would I notice any difference, is it worth it? What speed CPU can I go up to without overclocking?
Thanks for any advice.

What does Beerman have against this mobo then?

He had one that failed under warranty and ebuyer refused to deal with the issue saying he must take it up with Foxconn...who I believe fobbed him off with some story so he ended up out of pocket and ditched the mobo.

Ordered one, along with 3800 CPU and graphics card, thanks OP.
Gonna put exsisting board and CPU and graphics card on Ebay.

At £38.39 you can have a motherboard supporting a dual core Athlon chip
ebuyer.com/pro…612
and at £70.11 an Athlon dual core 2.0ghz processor ebuyer.com/UK/…288
should make quite a speedy system

FYI. The motherboard has now gone up to 44.95 Bah!

just thought it might be worth mentioning this is a socket 939 board which isn't AMD's current socket.AMD's current socket is AM2 which is not compatable with 939 so be careful if buying a new CPU. 939's are still available but you might need to look around.

not saying theres anything wrong with the board its great had many 939 systems meself

ps the link above is a AM2 CPU and will not work in a 939 board!!!!

If you get one that dies its almost cheaper to buy a new one in most cases

I now have this board after my £100+ asus AN832-SLi died
that is costing me £8 postage £12 admin fee and a 4-8 week wait as it there repair center is somewhere in CZECH republic

The system runs just as good if not better than my £100+ board
