Brand new Fractal Design R5 cases - if you really need a 5.25 bay or two, probably one of the best cases you can get. No doubt due to be replaced soon, but surprisingly Maplin seem to be cheapest at the moment.

Non-window versions for £80.99
Windowed versions for £85.99

Take your pick of any colour. Prices include free delivery. Only seems to be available online and not instore.

Best case ever...mind you it is incredibly heavy.

Great case but too big + heavy for my liking. Sound deadening +1.

Got the windowed R4 and it's one of the best purchases. Had a problem with my hard drive being loud but after getting this I can't hear it at all.

Maplin is 4.2% cashback for online purchases via topcashback (or you can register for 4% instore topcashback oncard cashback).

4.2% cashback would be £3.40 from the £80.99 or £3.61 from the £85.99

I have 2 R4 cases and are the bees knees as far as I am concerned, as I used 1 for my NAS box with 9 drives

Great cases.

I've got the R2 XL and it's a fantastic case, really easy to build with, nice and quiet, dust filters in all the right places.

Hmmm, the R5 isn't *THAT* new and it's been plenty cheaper elsewhere (was down as low as £65 I think). That said - brexit wobbles etc. This IS the cheapest price I can find for it at the moment.

It IS an excellent case. I strongly believe there's few cases that:
1) aren't huge
2) are simple and tasteful
3) that can take such a large amount of water cooling equipment.

The front bays can be basically removed (and alternative places used for mounting drives) leaving space for a large, thick 280mm radiator on the front and thinner 420mm in the roof. All that while still having a good chunk of the sound dampening material in action. You can get up to a 280mm in the roof without removing all the drive bays if that matters

You COULD shoehorn twin 360/420mm in there at a push with a little tinkering. Excellent case. Food for thought

"My god, it's full of stars"

Brilliant case, if all youre going to do is rip out the drive cages and install water cooling kit, do consider the Define S. It's a bit cheaper than the R5 and doesn't have a door on the front (no optical bays), but it still supports all the same water cooling kit.

I was going to get an R5 before I discovered the Define S, so I thought someone else may benefit too.

Heat added, OP.

Brilliant case, actually smaller than my old Antex P180 but it's actually more spacious inside thanks to being single bay and extra wide. Cracked a thick 240mm AIO in the top for my CPU and a few extra of the excellent fractal fans and it runs very quietly and very cool now and keeps on top of the 1070.

It is a great case - dead silent. Not sure about the price though - I got mine for £74.99 (delivered) off Novatech in July 2015.

This case is of pristine quality. I'd definitely recommend it for any build!

Does the S have all the sound dampening mats in it too? Always thought it was missing those.

It has sound dampening on both side panels (obviously only one if it's a windowed case) and on the three "modu-vent" cover things on the top. It doesn't have sound dampening on the front panel (I believe the R5 does), but I added some to mine as a little DIY project for myself; for what it's worth, the cheap sound deadening I bought of eBay seems more effective than the stuff Fractal fitted.

Hope that helps.

This case looks great ngl. However, nzxt s340 is about £40 less and looks very similar to this case, if you are on a smaller budget I'd definitely recommend this case

Sure, I COULD read all of your post, but I'm not SURE if you have EMPHASIZED enough in your comment with the use of CAPITALS...

Fractal do great cases, I have both the Nano S and the Core 1300 and they're both amazing. Unfortunately the R series are too big for my tastes, but I do know that they are incredibly good cases

Don't understand people complaining that this is too big or heavy. It's a desktop case, mine hasn't moved in years!

What makes a case worth so more than others, out of interest? It must be something more than looks. Ports and fans, anything else?

I prefer the R2>R4>R5

The R2 XL is the best case ever for custom water cooling

That sounds like a terrible problem, you poor thing. Hope your neighbours didn't keep calling the Police out due to the racket

Flexibility in regard to what parts can be installed (especially cooling parts), build quality and sound deadening. These are all areas where this R5 and its cousin, the Define S, both excel whilst still being priced very reasonably. There's also the more subjective matter of how easy a case is to build in, which if the Define S is anything to go by, is another area the R5 performs extremely well in.

Nice.

Thanks! Appreciate the explanation.

Just curious but please can anyone explain to me why such empty cases are sooo expensive in UK?

This just happens to be an expensive one, there are certainly cheaper ones available. However, you get what you pay for, and this case is the best case I've ever worked with (same goes for the 804)

That price is only for the black with no window. With TCB, Maplin are still cheaper, and they are doing all colours for the two prices I mentioned.

good cases, but very boring

Is that windowed 8 or upgraded to windowed 10

Shame these things have gone up in price. Got an R5 for £70 which was the going rate a few months ago.
