The drive to Dover from up North makes it not great value unfortunately. If only fuel was cheap in this country.

Aye you cant beat a big bag of fat chips cooked in beef dripping
We did this trip ourselves last year. It was practically free since we got 6 bottles of wine for free as part of the deal. Had a nice drive around Calais, had a really nice lunch, did some shopping and headed back. It will be chilly in Nov/Dec but you'll be in your car or inside a resturaunt or shops so its not too bad. You definitely wont have time for Paris but I'd reccomend it as a nice day out especially if you have passengers as it works out so cheap. Super hot from me
Good deal but watch out for people swimming across the channel whilst you're on the ferry, they WILL overtake you!

It's a very slow crossing.
My Grandparents used to take me to Boulogne as a kid. I remember enjoying that so I'm trying to talk the Mrs. into this. I hear Calais isnt upto much but is there any nearby towns to visit or any restaurant recommendations thanks.

Just had a little look on TripAdvisor. Looks good to me.

Free Fuel Voucher no good for Electric Car Drivers,,, Prefer the ones with Free Wine or Beer, I can drink those I find Unleaded leaves a nasty taste.
More convenient to fly from Liverpool , nearest cheapest airport to us , save the hassle for the super long drive to Dover then further to Paris as nothing to do in Calais .

Police there never check for emergency kit, so don't bother. Same for Eurolite.

Same as here but on the other side. Just an important rule that's way different from most countries, if no signs at a road crossing, the driver on your right, got the priority. (really common on cities). Drivers are a bit less patient than here but not a big difference.

First we talk roundabout. Not crossing.
Crossing also depends on signs on the road too. From what you say (for roundabout, where cars join the roundabout) people who are in the roundabout coming from the left, have to stop in the middle to leave who wants to join the roundabout.
I am Greek, living in UK, and drove all through Europe.
You may need to check the French Highway code again mate. From what you say, when I am on a roundabout I have to stop in the roundabout to leave everyone who wants to join from the right....

I am taking about intersection or roundabout in France without signs. In this case, priority is given to the right. I drove in Greece and currently in UK; and honestly France is super disturbing for this rule.
For eg:
This one: no signs (no dotted line and no triangle sign), the small white car need to stop, to give priority to the 2 cars

but not in this case (dotted line + triangle sign)

Have a look in real situation with the most famous one (with priority on the right): Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysee, Paris:
