They have these in Poundland and The 99p Shop... Picked a couple up today from Poundland. (^_^)

pie in a tin, yuck

They sound rank but my god that pastry is nice.

In the first 3 comments we already have 1 stupid comment!

Good post op heat added. I saw these at this price last week £1 each or 2 for £2.50!?!?.

So if you buy 2 you will be charged £1.25 each!

My nan used to make these, about 20 years ago. With boiled potatos and peas. Not so tasty if I remember rightly. But great price - Heat added

They're not bad and they have a huge shelf life (couple of years?). Good to keep as emergency food... still have some from 2 years ago. I wouldn't call them good, though, either... too much filling, pastry is kind of soggy (still tastes pretty good though) and tinned meat is never as good as fresh or frozen.

The crispy pastry on top, soggy underneath is DEE-LISH!

Murder getting them opened mind - so you may have to invest in a decent tin opener.oO

In the last year or so they've reduced the size of these by around 10% (from 475g to 425g).

Update: Having just checked these Asda pies appear to be the regular 475g ones, not the smaller 425g.

I mentioned this in another thread but I think a Fray Bentos exclusive thread deserves a mention.
If you Google fray bentos difficult to open you can see how widespread the problem is.
I emailed them to complain that I had broken 2 can openers trying to open one of their pies. They sent me £15 to buy a new one
Fwiw, this is the one I bought and it's the best opener I've ever had.

these pies are nice, good deal!

These may be good in these troubled times.
Personally, I like spam shanks and a good
leg of corned beef.

Poundland have a different selection of varieties. Includes some "limited edition" pies such as Just Chicken.

Also in iceland for £1

Why?

These are disgusting. Wouldn't eat them if they were given to me.

When still in the oven and almost fully cooked they look good enough to eat,but your eating excitement soon goes as flat as the pastry when served...........but i still eat them!

love these pies good find

ooh nice! cow's bum for dinner, know a guy who use to make these and he told me what they put in them, wouldn't eat one if it was free!

.........That must be why the pastry blows up so high!

yeah I know its that pukka pie guy.. lol

Tins are good for making yorkshire puddings in!

lol at just spotting this thread - just minutes after coming in from the kitchen where I took one of these very pies out of the cupboard for my lads dinner.
He asked me to buy one last week when we were in Asda as he had one when he was little and remembers the pastry being fantastic

They were two for £2 then or £1.25 each

Sh!t in a tin, my favourite.

Low protein content for a supposed meat pie. Mostly gravy?
