Do you do this by cancelling the contract?

no. There is a setting in the online control panel of your 1and1 account

Can't find it on my account for either .com or .co.uk domains, never seen it in my years looking with them

I've 2 domain names and hosting with 123-reg but is there a cheaper alternative? £6.99 is similar to what I'm paying PY.

then how would you renew elsewhere after offer period?

Good price, customer service I've found is horrendous and it's very difficult to cancel.

Transfer the domain to another provider within reasonable time prior to expiry, then ensure the 1n1 package is ceased (latter is v important with 1n1).

Had a look at the Control Panel on my account. Couldn't spot it anywhere. Could you help with some pointers please?

6.99 seems cheap for a domain. Does this include storage for your files,?

genuinely wouldn't touch them. landing page only maybe hate there systems but depends what you are wanting

Sorry, that's just for the domain, not for hosting and I just had a check it's £7.99 PY for my .co.uk's. I pay £14.99 per quarter for hosting which I also would like to get cheaper.

I've created an app which I'm in alpha stages, I'd like a domain for it which is why I'm interested in this but adding another domain means a bigger hosting package needed.

Anyone took this offer up? After clicking the [Order Now] button on the final 'Order Review' page an error is displayed; "We're sorry, this page is only available after placing an order. All domains, website services and other current offers can be found here."

Can any one advise on a good decent domain hosting company please?

I wouldn't get sucked into using their services over 1 or 10 quid if I were you

I bought a domain from them last year. Absolutely painful website and process to set up. I didn't even bother using the domain and made a point of cancelling on time. You submit to cancel and then have to call them to confirm.

Thanks, I will look into it

Yip I too have been stung by the horrible nasty 1and1 years ago.
If i remember correctly, there was a completely different website to cancel automatic renewal - seriously.

123's got very expensive recently, and I'm slowly shipping all out. The .coms have all gone to America, (Namecheap) although with the imminent brexit and the devaluing of the pound, it'll will probably mean I'll have to bring all back!

As for the .co.uk, there's a few smaller companies who can do it for less than the 16 quid (for 2 years) 123 are charging.
I have no experience of thenames.co.uk, but £9.50 (for 2 years) is cheaper than I'm paying.

We use 123 reg - no problems

You go to contract.1and1.co.uk and just set the domain to expire at the end of the contract term

I got this a few days ago. Logged in, without knowing about an offer, and it was just... there.

A word of caution. I did this with another company. Didn't read the small print that I had to cancel at month 10.. I didn't they then charged me for the renewal.

I was told the following on LC re cancelling:

https://help.1and1.com/account-and-billing-c65577/cancellation-c85201/cancel-a-domain-andor-additional-items-from-your-packagea645157.html

You are able to simply cancel your current tariff yourself in your 1&1 Control Panel. Alternatively, our Customer Support can do this for you. You can reach them at 0333 336 5691 or send an email to support@1and1.co.uk

Their regular price is £8.39 (inc. VAT)

Would it be possible to use this domain as a dynamic DNS address? I currently use a free dynamic dns from no-ip for my Teamspeak server but this would be a bit easier for people to remember. Thanks.

Been using 123reg for years but slowly moving out my domain names also, has become too expensive and had many issues over the years with auto renew function.Always read small print with any new provider especially regarding any exit fees.

Beware, they act like total a holes if you don't cancel the domain according to the small print, and it auto renews regardless.

It wouldnt be a deal without a saving, anything saved is a hot deals of course.

Also having a domain here you might have to pay a large fee to release domain elsewhere. But if you're happy having domain with 1and1 then so be it.

much better options available at 123reg etc..

I have used one.com for many years as I like the online website editor which is fairly user friendly. After first year the package is just over £30 thereafter which is still good.

Ditto. Exceptionally difficult to cancel contracts with 1&1 IMHO and they are absolutely insistend that you pay-up regardless of cancellation requests being sent to them.

Just wait till that 'free' year ends. They'll pester you with emails and serious-looking emails why you need to renew. No thanks. If anyone needs a simple site buy domain from NameCheap and hosting from Digital Ocean (free $10 if you use this link).

Thanks OP but from personal experience 1&1 have horrific customer service, terrible company.

Not voting on the deal, but for those considering - this company is awful! The company I worked for had all their domains registered here way before I joined, 1&1 randomly reset the nameservers of our domain names causing e-mail and websites to stop working and redirect to 1&1 default holding pages. They gave no explanation as to how this happened, didn't really care about the disruption they caused and gave no indication they were going to do anything to ensure it didn't happen again. We immediately moved all our domains away. I used to say it's OK to register the domain with a cheap registrar as long as you host your DNS elsewhere... But when the registrar resets the nameserver back to their own, then they can't even be trusted as a registrar!
