Received an email from Virgin mobile offering 1000 free texts as follows:

Hello,

We love surprises. Big bunches of flowers little bundles of airtime.

alking of airtime, wed like to give you 1000 free texts - just to say thanks for being one of us.

If youd like them, all you need to do is text Yes to 80310 by 25th April. Texts to 80310 cost just 10p and the 1000 texts you get back are absolutely free.

Enjoy texting!

The Virgin Mobile team.

Edit:Looks like you need to be registered with virgin online,as the texts come in the form of a voucher sent out to you.The email reply reads as follows:
Thanks for replying.A voucher for your 1000 free texts is on its way to you.

Checked my account and the texts are only charged @ 3p,not 10p.

I am registered with virgin for PAYG sims,so can't comment on whether this applies to contract or not.

Sent an email to virgin about this offer.Just had a reply as follows:
Hi ,
Thanks for your email to Virgin Mobile about the fantastic voucher offer you received for 1000 free texts.
We can confirm that the voucher will be sent to you, with advice on how many texts you will be entitled to each month and for how many months, along with instructions on how to apply this to your phone.

Edit:THIS DEAL IS NOW EXPIRED,SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY SENDING A TEXT.

Where did you find this, on the website? The link you've provided just goes to the mobile home site.

I guess, technically, this isn't a freebie as it costs 10p for the text,so feel free to move if needs be.
Anyway,a few seconds after sending the text, you should get one back saying, thank you for replying and a voucher is on it's way.In that respect,i would think that you must be registered with them online with at least one sim card, otherwise they wouldn't know where to send the voucher.:)

I didn't supply the link,it just defaults to that when submitting the deal.I received an email this am.This is not an online deal.

Thanks and a text came back said a voucher for 1000 free texts is on its way...

Replied instantly "your voucher is on it`s way to you" Heat & rep added.

Why would they need to send you a voucher? Would they not just credit your mobile with the 1000 free texts. sorry to be negative but once biten twice shy!

Will this work on contract ones? Will it cost me or will my free texts count?

Fantastic, many thanks, got the message back straight away - I love Virgin, they have such great promotions!

I would imagine they don't just credit your phone, as you could just be using their free £5 sims and not registering with them, they want you to be part of their 'club'. Mine was a free £5 sim which I used after their credit had ceased and I registered it so I could top up automatically, now its paying dividends and I'm happy to be part of it.

No harm in being negative. That's what this forum is all about, sharing info and points of view.:)
But what are you referring to,when you say once bitten, twice shy.
This is a legitimate email from Virgin and the most you stand to lose is 10p.

Don't know mate.I received the email, but i only have PAYG registered with them.Give it a go,you'll only lose 10p max.:)

the 80310 number looks as if it is legit - Virgin use the same number for several other promotions.

Any idea how you actually use the voucher? Just did it from son's phone and got the message back about getting a voucher for the 1000 texts. No idea where they'll send a voucher to, or how to use it.

Voted hot, OP.

Lets hope it works, Virgin sims are quality - already transferred £100 of free £5 sim credit to 1 main sim, and now the 1000 free texts have been accepted, so if the voucher arrives I have 1 very loaded sim card haha.

How did you get the £5 credits transferred to a single SIM ? Thanks. Del

register all the SIM's online under your name then you can either phone Customer Services or send them an email & ask them to transfer the credit from 1 number to another.

I got the text back confirming that 1000 texts is on the way ..... but who knows how they're gonna arrive?!?!??

Chris

the text only costs me 3p. I am on PAYG

Wonder how long the 1000 txt can be used by...1 month?

Just rang virgin and asked how the voucher works. The guy i spoke to,said,he thinks it works the same as pre paid vouchers and you scratch off to reveal a code to put into your phone.Didn't sound to convincing, mind.
If anybody else wants to call, here is a freephone number 0800 0520837 or you can call 789 from your virgin phone.Calls to 789 from your Virgin Mobile phone are absolutely free and if you'd like to speak to one of the team, it'll cost you 10p per call.

The 1000 free text offer is a genuine offer but you can only use them to text from one Virgin number to Another Virgin mobile - .

Virgin Mobile offers a Summer of Free Texts

28/04/2006

* Virgin Mobile to Virgin Mobile texts are free this summer

* All Virgin Mobile customers benefit from free texts

* Up to 20 billion texts being given away

28.04.06 Starting today, all of Virgin Mobile’s 4.34 million customers can enjoy a Summer of Free Texts. Up to 20 billion texts are being given away as Virgin Mobile customers can text each other for free.

This is the largest text promotion ever seen in Britain and rewards all existing and new customers joining Virgin Mobile this summer with free texts. Customers can send up to 1,000 free texts a month to other Virgin Mobiles until the end of September.

Graeme Hutchinson, Virgin Mobile’s sales and marketing director, said: "They say that the best things in life are free, and the Summer of Free Texts is no exception! This offer is typical of Virgin: simple, great value, ground-breaking and rewards every customer. We think our customers are going to be the most social mobile phone users in Britain this summer!"

Virgin Mobile customers who are on contract or using Pay As You Go bundles can also take advantage of the offer, as their text allowances will decrement for texts to other networks during the promotion, as on-net texts are free.

Nobody knows for sure yet, what the terms are, whether it is only for 1 month or longer or whether it is virgin to virgin or any network.

I phoned virgin about it cause i was quite concerned that the site says nothing, they had no idea what i was talking about and the only way apparently to get 1000 texts is to buy a bundle at £15
In saying that they could barely speak english so.
All i can find on virgins site is that number for setting up video calling.
and i just got another email this one for gig tickets

"You just have to text us the date you wish to attend plus the number of tickets you're requesting. You can choose between 2-4 tickets for you and up to 3 mates.

So if you fancy going to Liverpool on May 7 with 1 mate, text 7x2 to 80310

If you fancied going to London on May 15 with 3 mates, text 15x4 to 80310

It's as simple as that.*"

Wait and see i suppose... i wouldnt recommend anyone to do it.

excellent! thanks for sharing
