Seems like a pretty sweet deal to get a decent laptop for free with John Lewis Broadband (which is the same as BT Broadband infrastructure considering it is run by BT's subsidiary - Plusnet).

From the John Lewis website (4.3/5 stars):
The stylish Lenovo IdeaPad 120S is a highly portable laptop that’s ready to connect to your Wi-Fi and then stream your favourite shows, listen to music, surf the net – and it’s even ready to help finish a spot of work.

Power on the go
Intel’s Celeron Dual-Core processor gives you the speed you need to get browsing, emailing and completing assignments. The Celeron even includes a burst frequency of up to 2.4Ghz, which will inject some extra power to keep things running smoothly at difficult times.

Wireless communication
Built-in Wi-Fi makes it easy to connect IdeaPad 120S to the internet, whether that's through your own home network, Wi-Fi at work or a public connection. Bluetooth will let you send files and folders wirelessly between Bluetooth devices, or even stream music to compatible speakers or headphones.

Packed with ports
Featuring handy USB ports, you can be sure there is space for all your external devices to be attached and the memory card reader will helpfully give you the chance to directly upload your images from a digital camera to the computer.
Community Updates
Please note the laptop only runs windows 10s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The laptop runs Windows 10S- but it can be upgraded to a full version of Windows 10 for free. laptopmag.com/art…ved

I certainly got Quidco cashback plus the free gift of Google Home when I switched to these early January. Their (plusnet's) router is pants though...

Is Plusnet (whom John Lewis say they use) a good ISP?

Every ISP seems to get negative reviews anyway, but was wondering if one has it worst than the other.

I guess it'll have to do, maybe upgrade the graphics card to a 1080, maybe SLI?

I wish that was the case for me! lol -- I asked BT to check and it seems my local cabinet/cupboard/exchange is full so only ADSL is available

The Broadband or the Cashback :P
I need to change from my Virgin Media package and was looking at Talk Talk for broadband and TV. If I got the broadband through these, is there anyone I can get just a TV package from - just the basic plus kids stuff like Nickelodeon ?
link to currys/pc world website is wrong, AFAIK this only has 2GB memory NOT 4GB so will be a bit slow. 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC would have been great, but this looks like 2GB and 32GB.

Or pay Plusnet 10.25/month direclty without all the hoops to jump through, and buy the laptop if you need it.

Get yourself a firestick or some other streaming device and download mobdro onto it, you'll get all the TV channels you need to keep the kids entertained.

The specs on the John Lewis page suggest it has 4gb memory, not sure about mmc though...

Edit: searching part number suggests 4gb ram, 32gb mmc

I don't think the laptop is the best, but it would be great for my granny to keep in touch with her cronies on facebook or whatever, as for the broadband you'd be better of get fibre or fibre plus, especially if there's more than 2 gadgets using the internet at the same time, from experience, I was driven near demented with slow internet when the kids put their gadgets on after school, ever since upgrading to fibre, the difference has been excellent.
Crucial say M2-2280 can be fitted, presumably to augment or replace the emmc.... uk.crucial.com/gbr…iap
It's AOL all over again..
So erm, crap broadband and a useless laptop for only £270? Great

Never known that happen before it's normally the other way around adsl available but fibre capacity full. If fibre is available then adsl should be as well.

I'm also with Plusnet, have been for years. So you have been able to basically not move provider, but still get the laptop offer? Might do this too if its possible?

For anyone who haven't been with Plusnet before, I have been extremely happy with them.
Thanks
Poor deal laptop is pants too
Nice
The standard broadband says "call us now" whereas the fibre and fibre extra allow me to continue online. Everyone else get that ?
Thanks op. £10 cheaper than current provider plus laptop for our daughters xmas present 😁😁😁

I'm with them. Have been for a few years.
Not got the fiber, so can't comment on that, but the regular service is reliable and fast enough for three light/medium users.

They boast UK call centres, but it takes a while to get through I've heard. Not that I've ever had to ring them.

my sentiments exactly. the basic bb is available for £10.25/month direct from plus net so the difference is approx £145 so the same as the price of laptop.

Not a deal in my book or a saving unless I've got it very wrong.
