What is this good for?

I use it for storing my movie TV and music library and streaming it from my pc to my firstick in the bedrooms and also my android devices. The free version already does this the Plex pass just adds a couple extra premium features. Hope this helps.

I would love a discount on the lifetime / yearly fee. Anyone got anything …I would love a discount on the lifetime / yearly fee. Anyone got anything exciting in that area.

I've been looking for a discount on the lifetime fee. If it was nearer the £50.00 mark I would snap it up. If I see any other promos I'll message you direct buddy.
Plex is one of the best streaming servers for NAS systems (especially for content like 4K Atmos True HD that many other players struggle with) and the pass adds extra features to the client Plex software.
Be sure to try check out the DVR "capability". 30 free days should be more than enough to realise what a crock of spit it is...

Do Dell preinstall this in their laptops? Noticed I've got Plex but have never used it or have clue what it does

I think usually a large discount on a lifetime Plex Pass is offered around Black Friday?

I failed to tag it as an alert until this year, so missed any Christmas, Black Friday, Halloween etc deals.

I have now amended that fact
Remember it's a recurring payment if not cancelled 😁

Last year there was a promo code posted on reddit for 50% off the usual $149.99 lifetime pass fee, just to give you an idea of what occasionally pops up.

Edit: Just did a search and this deal was posted not too long ago.

hotukdeals.com/deals/plex-25-off-lifetime-pass-limited-time-3368497

3+ months ago and there were a few deals where a lifetime Plex pass could be had for just over £60 so definitely worth keeping your eyes peeled.

I doubt it will come under £50 perhaps under £60

Cheers for the heads up. I'll grab that sub too
I have been using plex premium features for last thee years and I won’t regret the price I paid for plex pass. It’s really worth it if you have dedicated plex server and tv tuner like HDHomeRun quatro. Mobile sync is a great feature too.

HI, I picked up a lifetime pass for £59.37 in June last year (via HUKD)

I ume'd and ard'ed (that doesn't read right when read back back!) for a bit but thought what the heck...I've probably only used 50% of its features & capabilities but if you get the chance to get it at a discounted rate I'd recommend grabbing it.

I've tried a few stand alone apps but Plex is a pretty mature full featured cross platform solution that works once you've put some time and effort in setting it up. I've tried other media platforms but none match Plex, it is lacking in a few areas i.e. DVR but at the moment that's not an issue for me particularly and i the long run I'm sure It will address its shortcomings...and if you manage to get a good discount on a lifetime pass you'll benefit.

It might seem a pretty high cost initially but I'm confident in the long run it will be VFM...as long as I live for another 10 years ( BTW I'm 50!)!.

Well that makes two of us that are exactly 50 (it's possible there maybe more on here too)

Anyway...

Yep, I had the premium 30 a while ago and thought if it ever came up on a deal, I'd grab it. But never set an alert.

I use it on the TV, so never see any deals that are web based, as I never visit the site.

But hopefully they'll post another one and anywhere near the £50/£60 ish Mark would be lovely

LOL...50 is the new 30, which is what I tell my 3 x teenage daughters and that I've convinced myself to be true.

However, they seem to disown me when I start break-dancing or doing my Kraftwerk robotics moves at their friends parties or other social occasions (obviously in the past now due to Corona)?
Plex is cracking bit of kit well recommend for the lockdown. I’ve only been using it myself for 4 weeks and invested a little in to it. A £50 from USA Apple time capsule 6th gen , 4TB WD red £55 , £39 Asrock nuc 2.4gb industrial quad core , 8gb with 4gb as transcode ramdisk. So far 820 movies all in 1080p that keep kids from all the extended family quiet on the smart TV’s.

Do you have a link for the NUC? And what about transcoding? What can it handle?

I got the nuc bee box used via eBay. It’s fitted with the intel N3160 quad core ( industrial unit for CAD / LED sign boxes etc ). I’ve so far tried it as a server and it’s running 2 Oprah enabled TV’s with one nearly always transcoded and the other runs native 1080p at another address with my Samsung running native 1080p , iPhone 11 via safari and amazon show via google web based. It seems to handle things very well but to be on the safe side I’m going to upgrade from 8gb installed to 16gb when I find some around £30 and set it to 10gb ramdisk. The nuc has the option to run ‘the BEAST’ external PCIE via the mini PCIe and a quadro when premium account has been bought.
Seems a really COMPLEX DEAL

I have a Qnap NAS (intel i7) with plex server backend and plex on fire tv job done - plays 4K easily
I run Plex on the new Shield, most people that stream I've taught to enable Direct Play, but it's previously handled 4x1080 transcodes at once. Shifts 4k around the house with ease as well.

I've never really had any issues with it to be honest. I've been using it since back when you used to be able to side load it on the old now TV boxes. Until now TV disabled the developer mode. Always found it to work really well. The music fetcher for album collections is really good. I used to use Kodi previously but I much prefer Plex now. Mainly for how easy it is to manually edit library info and add art work and details.

Plex has revolutionised the way we watch films in our house. We have a NAS and use that as a media server, you might want t look into that as Plex can be installed on most

Seconded.

When it was a beta and they were paying attention to it, it was great - now it is barely useable (on a good day) and the crap guide data they use is no better than whats available OTA.

Thats a good shout. I just spent a little over £1000 upgrading to a new pc build so I might make that a project for later this year. My pc is a media build Hooked up through my living room 4k tv that's on in my living room most days anyway, though I like the simplicity of the Nas. Damn you just gave me a reason to spend more money now. Lol.
Can i share my videos and photos with family without being on the same wifi network with the free version?
