Get a 4 year 18-25 railcard free with Santander Student Bank Account. This is a decent bank account anyway (3%interest on balances up to £2000 and free overdrafts up to £1500) really useful freebie can save you hundreds of pounds over 4 years!
i have posted this before but it has been expired. Good time to post again in time for next years intake. Worth switching to this even if you already have a student account from previous year(s), you will still get a 4 year railcard.

You obviously misunderstood my comment. Yes you can buy yearly ones, but that works out more expensive than buying a 3 year one. And the 4 year one is not available for sale, I believe it's only available through Santander. Wind your neck in

And not maths no, although my degree had a large amount to do with statistics 😘

They're also only £30 a year to buy so be sure the offers from other banks aren't worth more to you.
I got one of these in my final year, I'm 26 now but my 16-25 railcard will last me til I'm 27 and a half, expires December 2019

You can't buy a 4 year one, only a 3 year one at max

Yes she can.
I signed up for this account last year and forgot to order the Railcard by the deadline.
Is this valid for old foggies outside the age range ?
Would this work with people older than 25 as in 26+?

Because I know you can still get a 16-25 card if you're over 25 and still in FT education but they only last 1 year...
Am going to be doing my PGCE in September and would like to take advantage of this as this could save me A LOT of money in the future. =)

EDIT:
After reading the T&C, it says it is only valid for courses that are a minimum of 2 years long. =(

Are there any cheap/free 2 year courses going soemwhere?!

Pftt! 17 years ago with HSBC it was a 5year card! Handy though, makes travel a lot cheaper and you don't have to think about it, it's just there for ages.

Worked out pretty well then, it might only be £30 a year but that's £120 for 4y, better than many deals, and better than a fistful of cashback that ends up down a pub toilet

Nope, that was you. You tried to imply my comment want relevant because you couldn't buy a four year directly. I never mentioned doing that, I said it was only £30 a year to buy, which it is, and therefore this offer is worth £120 absolute max. I suggested offers from other banks may give a better deal if you just buy your own. Whether you can buy a four year one yourself or not has no relevance but buying three year and then a single directly would've been a good tip as it makes this offer worth even less that it appears.

I would suggest you wind your own neck in but understand there's a good chance you don't have one... Over to you

Introduced in 2013 when my son was in his final year at Uni. It's a v. useful 'freebie'.
Daughter has one now too.
It's a timely reminder for those thinking about Student bank a/cs , OP!

Maths degree just isn’t maths lol
Are PhD students eligible for this?
My daughter started Uni last year and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get this offer because for 18yrs of her life she lived at home so had no credit rating then 1st yr she lived on campus. After many contacts with Santander and going in branch to sit down with someone SANTANDER admitted defeat as this offer was useless for any 1st yr students

Santander will pay up to £60 a year interest plus effectively another £30. That’s £90 a year in benefits. If you don’t need the overdraft this is the best student account you can have.

Strange, when I got it 3 years ago they gave it to me pretty instantly, they know that most 18 year olds have no credit history and the credit check only affects how much overdraft they offer, they told me as long as I was on the electoral roll and didn't have any negatives on my file (e.g missed payments etc) I should get the max and I did. Suppose experience depends on what branch you use.
Can link the railcard to your Oyster card to give you a third off off-peak tube as well
Edited by: "ir1shman01" 22nd Jul
You may want to point out the course has to be a MINIMUM of 2 years to be able to use a student account and thus be able to get the railcard...

Thanks.

Didn't see it said undergraduate. For the record, I don't think it was so obvious. Post doesn't say it, and Santander's poorly designed mobile page made it less than easy to see.

Thanks for the best wishes, but try it with less sass next time.

Same thing happened to me. They kept declining me and even declined an appeal and yet I have good enough credit history to get any other bank account or a AMEX card.

After getting the railcard can i close the santander account and switch to another student account to get other benefits?
I don’t know you would have to look at the small print. Worth keeping anyway if you have a credit balance to earn interest on. Also good free overdraft facility.
