Got SMS from O2 that I can upgrade to 4G on same tarrif without extra cost.
I called and did the same.
I am a business customer. This could possibly be for regular customers too.
Thought of sharing.
Good luck.

Oddly enough I had a 3G deal and asked for a replacement sim for a different phone and they said I was now 4G
I had a chat on O2 and they offered me free 4g
They have been upgrading customers for months for free. Think they are rolling it out to everyone very slowly. I got mine about 3 months ago.
I'm on a legacy SIM-only tariff, that gives me Unlimited Data (and 1600 minutes and 1600 texts) for £21.50 a month.

Don't suppose that they'll upgrade me to 4G for free!!

wow! that legacy tarriff is awesome! try calling them and check for 4G...you still get luckier
I haven't got a call, but I think my iphone5 won't work on O2 4g even though I got it from O2
What about pay and go customers who have the data addon?
Only certain phones are 4G compatible at the moment - mainly the most current on the ranges for sale. I've got the iPhone 5 too and that certainly isn't 4G compatible.

I love o2. O2 rock.
Anyone know if EE is doing anything similar?

Three do an Unlimited all you can eat data, plus tethering, plus unlimited texts and minutes (called "The One") for £20 p/m SIM only - and has been including 4G for 'free' for ages.

I believe the only network that the iPhone 5 will pick up 4G is 3 and IIRC EE? Otherwise it's just the 5S that can get 4G for an iPhone.

Is this specific to o2 because I'm sure the iPhone 5 has LTE?
Yup, the iPhone 5 only has support for the LTE bands that EE and Three use.

Yep, just read up online, seems o2 use the 800MHz spectrum and the iPhone 5 only uses the 2600MHz spectrum for LTE.

Article here is anyone is interested.
I hope it's better then their 3G because my 3G is shocking from O2 sick of it cutting off all the time!!
Just chatting to them now and you have to be on a tarriff that includes at least 1Gb of data to get it free, else theres a small charge (£3 p/m)
I have iphone 5 and get to go to 3 to get 4G.
Can be shocking at times - had 4G reception on both my phones yesterday but couldn't google or go on Facebook, but BBC was working. similar problems all week. never had that trouble in 3 years with tesco/O2

Wasn't o2 letting people with the iPhone 5 upgrade early because their network wasn't compatible ??
had mine on note 3 for about 4 weeks now for no extra cost. greater speed imo, however in my area no 4g lol
Wud be a brilliant deal ..... if I had a blooming signal
Just spoke to them, and because they don't offer my contract any more they can't do it for me
Left o2 for giffgaff and the 3g is patchy unless you're in a city. I assume it would be the exact same 3g service I'd get if I had stayed on o2 though. Shame my S3 doesn't support 4g so this is all irrelevant.
I too am on a legacy contact and have been holding out (moving to giff gaff, reducing contact etc.) In the hope that 4G will be offered on my unlimited internet, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen

Once everyone is on 4g does that mean those of us stuck with 3g will suddenly notice they get a better faster service?
Just to add that I logged into my O2 account, started a live chat session and got the free upgrade to 4G within a couple of minutes.

I have a Galaxy S4 and I'm a year into a 2 year contract. There are no changes to my current contract.

Edit : I did have to request a 4G SIM though. Which was also free.

the iphone 5 LTE was only capable of 4G on the EE network, (different wavelengths TECHNICAL GOBBLEDYGOOP)

The Iphone 5S & 5C work on the o2 4G network, i believe the same for vodafone too

it can't be any worse!
I did get in touch with O2 a couple of months back about this and they said they could upgrade me but it would be an extra £10 a month on top of my £27 a month contract.

Will give it another try later on and see if things are any different now.
I'm on a £16 a month tariff (750MB data, 600 mins) after my contract run out in January, told them i'd get a new phone with them soon (no intention of doing that btw )

I doubt they'd let me do this.
Pants i got my Iphone 5 last July and just rang 02 for a compatible sim card so i could get 4G, but just got told that not all iphone 5's enable you to get 4G.

Guess what sods law my phone is one of them
@yvonnekearsley : no iPhone 5 can work on the O2 4G network (nor Vodafone 4G).

It will however, work on EE & 3.

I have an HTC One I hope that's 4G compatible
Heat added as my girlfriend is on O2 contract so she could use this. I'm with 3 so I'm already getting free 4G.

Me too! It's a bit of a pain though in that you can never buy a contract phone and stay on that tariff I've been told, you'd end up being moved to a new tariff. Similarly I just checked on this and can't be upgraded to 4G without tariff change as with other posts here.
