Just seen this in the new edition of Retro Gamer. This is a great offer if you want a good quality wireless joypad for the switch/iPad. Just subscribe to six months of Retro Gamer Magazine (normally £5 an issue) and you get a free Nes themed 8bitdo pad worth £30. It's only £26 for the lot, bargain

It’s not free if you have to pay £26.

Of course it’s free....do you think they sell the printed copy of the magazine for £0?

By your reckoning BOGOF deals are non existent.

Awesome deal thank you OP
Great deal. Assuming this is the N30 Pro and not the N30 Pro 2 they announced at E3 on Twitter? (It has motion controls along with a few more features)
This is a good deal. I bought just the controller for a similar price. The controller is decent, a bit small but decent.

Cracking deal. Thanks.
Thanks for posting the deal.

Does the subscription need to be cancelled to avoid another £26 charge in 6 months time?

Without even checking I can say for sure yes you will need to cancel. I'm sure most of the time they hope people forget

Great deal - I got a Retro Gamer subscription on an offer, and despite not owning or playing many of the systems / games they write about, I’ve been enjoying it so much that I’ll definitely keep buying it
Anyone have any details on the controller? pic shows the N30 Pro but details just call it ' 8bitdo N30 Retro Controller ' (one without the sticks)

The description of the gift on the my favourite magazines page does say N30 pro controller. So fingers crossed that's what it should be.
Can anyone comment on the quality of the pad?

Have looked at some reviews on Amazon and it mentions d pad issues?! Want to use the pad for street fighter 30th anniversary game

About the gift

The N30 Pro controller isn't just a full-sized wireless Bluetooth game controller - it was designed with respect for the classics.

This controller is designed to be as versatile as possible. Easily paired via Bluetooth or a wired USB you can play on everything from your Switch to your PC and pay homage to the original video game visionaries.”

Silly question but after clicking the referral link, how do you nav back to this deal as I can't seem to find it by manually searching for the magazine?
Why not as it's nearly fathers day.

Just click on the link to a deal again and give it a go.
Nice deal, I sold my nes 30 Pro for the snes 30 Pro because the thumb sticks are pretty useless on the nes30 but if you are mainly using it for the dpad then it's a great little controller.
Thanks OP, heat added and purchased.
And for people like me who've been subscribed for 5 years straight, got nothing as an incentive. Finally have a reason to un unsub
HotUkDeals. The perfect place to find stuff you don't need but decide to buy anyway because the deal is good. Given I only have the standard controllers for the Switch that came with it this seems like a good deal to me. Heat added.

Nice one OP. Just ordered
Epic deal for the non total cheapskates on this site. Total bargain for a great pad and magazine combo. Nice find, thank you.

Took up a Retro Gamer subscription about 5 years ago with a 3 for £1 trial found on here, have been paying full price renewals ever since and happy to do so. Absolutely fantastic mag, never in a million years did I expect to have a magazine subscription come 2018 but here we are. This is a great deal!

I understand your annoyance as companies are always giving the bargains to new comers rather than rewarding their loyal customers, but I've just signed up for the deal and noticed this on order completion page:

"Your print subscription will start with the following issue Your first issue: Retro Gamer Print| ISSUE 183| Issue 183| On sale on or around 12th July 2018

Current Subscribers: If you have an existing subscription, please ignore the start issue stated above. Your new subscription will be added to the end of your current subscription term."

So looks to be open to existing Customers too.

If you have to pay money in order to get something, by definition it isn't free. The controller is a bonus. BOGOF is a nonsensical term, it should be 'buy one, get one at no extra cost', but that's not quite so catchy of course.
Great magazine ! Subscribed since issue 2. Got a reprint of number 1 free with issue 100 in 2012. Great homebrew section. I love to see all the new speccy games (usually made by spanish people...god bless them)
That random waffle was meant as a recommendation by the way !
Great mag, great controllers. You can’t use the, with iPads anymore tho, but switch and laptops, rpi, firetv etc all fine. I think you can even pair them with the 8bitdo retro receiver for use on other consoles (def wii u I know that). Heat from me.

“No extra cost”

What is your definition of ‘free’?

The controller is £24.99 on Amazon. The magazine subscription is £26 and you get the controller for no extra cost / for £0 / for free.

i can understand your frustrations in other situations, like getting a free console with a pay monthly phone because you’re overpaying for the phone deal aka paying for the console over the course of the contract, but on this occasion I think it’s fair to say that “free controller when you subscribe to retro magasine” isn’t inaccurate.

'costing nothing, or not needing to be paid for'

Don't get me wrong, this is a great deal. The controller isn't free though since you can only get it by paying money. It's a bonus.
