Pi Hole on a Pi Zero does more than their 'limited to 9 devices' Lifetime product and at a fraction of the cost and all in the background
Just use Firefox, Ad Block Plus and uBlock Origin plugins. All free.

Does it block those annoying pop-up videos too please?

Or just use AdGuard DNS on your router/devices, which is free anyway. AdGuard also has a currently free VPN (doesn't block ads but is useful anyway) and a decent ad blocker extension. And that's before even including anything else that does ad blocking.

Why would you run two adblockers at the same time when uBlock origin is vastly better than Adblock Plus and doesn't allow ads through ? And also uses a lot of the same blocking filters ?

Anyway this is a great deal for the best adblocker around.

So which one is better, uBlock or AdBlock ? You say adBlock is the best around immediately after saying uBlock is vastly better than it

If it's on the same network, yes. It covers all devices that are on the same network.

Pi Hole effectively does what AdBlock DNS does

You've misread what I wrote, but i'll make it easy.

If you're on a desktop then uBlock Origin is the best adblocker available. Uses a tiny fraction of the resources that Adblock Plus does and doesn't allow any ads through.

If you're on a mobile, Adguard is the best adblocker available. The pro version is even better. And it's cheaper than paying out for a raspberry pi and faffing around with that setup.

The Adguard APK does. You have to download it from the Adguard website as it's been banned from Google Play for basically being too effective.

So you mean it's limited to home use? Where as Adguard will run on your mobile when it's on data...
Just done some checking and it seems, which is news to me, Pi Hole doesn't block YouTube ads ( not a biggie for me though ).

The minus point with AdGuard DNS is in its limitations; you have no control over what domains are blocked, are trusting them to not misuse your traffic data, etc

Yes, that's exactly ad blockers are there for.
(Unfortunately no ad blocker can be 100% effective so some might slip through.)

Yes it does, as long as you have an app to change the DNS of your phone. AdGuard DNS also has a family safe version to block stuff you wouldn't want kids to see.

I use Adguard for both PC and mobile. (Personal license covers any 3 devices using your login account) I do say it is still highly effective. You can also tweak it to block/unblock sites, or ads individually if needed. Great for Youtube website too. Very rarely it does interfere with apps on mobile ie. banking, or game apps if you want to watch ads to get double rewards etc (sometimes it is worth it) but these can be turned off for protection individually in the app. I highly recommend it though. Have some heat 🔥

You can always get YouTube vanced if you’re on Android. Completely ad-free experience for free.
Some VPNs also allow to set Adguard DNS within their own configuration

Is it possible to somehow to install Pi Hole on a laptop or on an android box which has built in ethernet port (instead of buying a Pi Zero basically) and then use one of them as a firewall by plugging to a router via ethernet (or via wifi as AP or kind of as optional alternative) ?

As long as your laptop runs a supported Linux distribution it should be easy to install:
docs.pi-hole.net/mai…es/

It can break networking in that Linux though. So unless you are a techy one and know how to fix it I would strongly advise against it.
Last but not least it will likely draw much more electricity than a Raspbery Pi.
Installing it on a Linux-based NAS box may make sense but again you need to learn how to fix it if it breaks.

Only problem, you end up whitelisting so many to access them.

I'm a techie with IT background, I might be able to fix and follow tutorials if needed. I have a https://g.co/kgs/EGpfuy and thought it might be used as a replacement for Raspberry PI, what do you think?

Youtube Vanced. You have to download this and a small login program called (if memory serves) microg. Login with your normal Youtube access and you'll get everything completely ad-free. Nothing on the app and nothing during the videos.

Works fine for me, but I guess it depends on the hardware and software you are using it with.

You won't have found Vanced on the play store as it's not allowed on there.

This is the official site for Vanced

xda-developers.com/you…pk/

It's 100% perfectly safe.
