perhaps they will but if you looked at what microsoft send themselves by default on Windows 10 you wouldn't think it's so funny.

there is a package to do this that installs spyware too. not sure if this is it.

As long as people read what is set by default instead of next, next, next then you shouldn't worry too much. Of course if you did click next, next, next then you only have yourself to blame anyway.

Failing that you can turn most of this stuff off in the OS easily so no real need for another program to do it.

no that's true.

however, microsoft are wrong to take advantage of people in this way. what they say is 'the upgrade will work without difficulty'. what they actually do is ignore what applications and settings you have and give you windows 10 with things that you use replaced by microsoft applications. so for example firefox is replaced by edge. kaspersky is replaced by windows firewall.

they also don't allow you to switch off automatic upgrade. you can defer it but not switch it off. this is not good when it installs a driver that doesn't work.

another thing is how windows 10 turns on windows defender when you have switched it off. microsoft 'know best' so you need to update the registry to switch it off permanently.

why would you want to ? defender is resource hungry and if you have norton or kaspersky you don't need it.

Windows 10 does NOT replace your apps with Microsoft versions. Firefox is NOT replaced by EDGE.
You do NOT turn off Defender in the registry. If you have another AV it will turn off automatically. Or it can easily be turned off in control panel.
Windows Firewall has always been there. It is easily turned on or off in control panel and it is a very capable firewall.
And if you use Norton you need your head examined.
All of the functions in this software can easily be turned on/off in Windows.

I wasn't suggesting using Norton.

You are stating facts that aren't true. You are wrong.

I'm not sure. Personally I just edit my own hosts file as it's safer.

Yea thanks for all the cold markings, but I thought rather than registry entries this free program does it all and doesn't even install on the computer. I thought it would be good freebie for the folks that aren't very computer literate but don't want their keystrokes recorded etc.. I'll shut mah pus in future!

They aren't the same thing. Your app alters privacy settings which can be altered manually within control panel. The two regedit I listed alter settings that you can alter and a day or two later windows reset them back as 'microsoft know best' lol

the wombat that tried to correct me (wrongly) didn't know that microsoft reset them.

Suggesting that people should go editing the registry is foolish advice.
Turn off Defender like this.

And to quote you - "so for example firefox is replaced by edge. kaspersky is replaced by windows firewall."
That's rubbish as well.

I have already said I won't have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. bye.... I could quote microsoft forum but won't as they identify me.

they tell you all your apps will work. when they don't they then say that their alternative does and they don't g'tee to transfer third party software.
