Found 30th Mar
Are you ready to box you to the top? This weekend, the ARMS Global Testpunch returns to Nintendo Switch and gives you the opportunity to bring a variety of opponents to the boards ... and all of that is free *!

During the event, you can play against other players online. You fight each other with retractable arms arms. Fighters include Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara and more.

The fun starts on Saturday, March 31, at 6:00 am and ends on Tuesday, April 3, 5:59 pm. In between, you can play as much as you like. We wish you a lot of fun with "ARMS"!

Prepare yourself now so that you can start right at the beginning. All you need is a Nintendo Switch console, an Internet connection, a Nintendo account and the free * ARMS Global Testpunch software from Nintendo eShop.

It's really put me off a lot of purchases from the eshop without getting a taste of games. Especially like Arms, 1, 2 switch and Splatoon 2, would enjoy a demo of those.

I can't recommend Splatoon 2 enough, every person who's come afresh (horrible pun there) have raved about the limited match time, the uniqueness of play style and general competitive but fun approach Ninty have taken the shooting genre. If you're really are still on the fence see if someone has a copy and will let you have a go, honsetly it's a blast!
We love a bit of ARMs in our house! I have three sons and it's a right giggle playing local multi-player together. I hope the global testpunch wins the game some new fans.

Says a lot about how much Ninty have changed, anyone remember the play limit they put on their demos?

As above, Splatoon 2 is fantastic. Really good fun, as playing the objective is the only real way to ensure you have a chance at winning.

Just going for enemy players will never win the game for you (unless your team covers paint extremely efficiently, or you are part of a specific team). It's brilliant.

Anyhow - the Global Testpunch actually starts at 0500 BST, not that it makes too much difference...

How many controllers do you use when playing local multiplayer? Or do you mean you guys okay two at a time, while the others watch?
Good fun game - keeping the kids busy all morning, though not sure it’s worth buying

We just play with split joycons, two at a time. It's a fun game to watch too. The music is great.
I might be being a bit cynical but is this free global test punch for one weekend only, really some sort of trial thing ahead of a "subscription" thing being applied to online gaming with Nintendo?

Not really. It's designed to drum up interest in general. Better than a limited feature trial or timer per se. It's been done a few times already.

Well we all know that the subscription is coming later this year (September I think), so just play the game while you can

But we know it’s coming - it’s not like this is some covert test to trick us and then use it as an excuse to charge - the charge is coming whatever and this is free...

IMHO - a charge is good and hopefully will lead to a better service and support - I don’t play games online but pay for both ps+ and Gold as both offer superb extras for the money.

Ps+ less so in last year + but the last couple of months ps4 + has improved greatly for both games included monthly and sales.

i hope Nintendo fit in nicely and adapt their service to compete - they probably won’t but hopefully.

but either way this is free and for me a good way to test a game I keep considering buying!
My arms ache after a quick go, very frantic and confusing, full game download is reduced at present, so good to try. Still on fence though.
I can't decide if dual joycon away from the Switch is better than pro controller. Hmm. Will let my boy and neices decide later!

Only thing that puts me off is I'm not a huge PvP fan. So a demo would be great to dive in try the game out before hand.

As it's around £35 used and £40+ new it's quite a bit to gamble on. >< But then the resell value holds.
I had a go on the last Global Testpunch and I just couldn't get along with this game; it was too hard to play for me. Will have another go today though - thanks @nihir for the heads up!
So is it free download this weekend?

Yes, but not for keeps though - just a little something for the weekend.
Been waiting for some demos to come out, make a chamge from hearing that awful Splatoon 2 music all the time

It's £33 on the eshop which is the best price I've seen for it. Bit more tempting.

It's gone up sharply by the looks of things. Probably a coincidence...
if anyone is getting themselves continually thrown by the mummy character, that is my five year old son. he's not bad.

Haha, put the kettle on I'll be right around!
does anyone know if you've previously played the testpunch and then deleted it, how you're supposed to download it again? In the eShop it just says "purchased" and i dont see the option to re-download it?!

That confused me too for a bit. There's a redownload option in the eshop. I think it's if you click on your profile at the top right. Not easy to find but it works.

Still £33.49 on mine.

Eshop > top right your profile image > redownload at the bottom of new screen > arms global.
Seems alright, controls are good. Like others here, think longevity will be in online play which will soon incur a charge so I will probably give the full version a miss.
