Free audiobooks and ebooks via OverDrive & your local library

I was doing some research into audiobooks and stumbled upon this...

In short, OverDrive lets you access audiobooks that are available from your local library. You can signup for free using your library membership, download them remotely and listen on your phone or computer.

I live in Leeds and there are over 5000 audiobooks available to me. I've just signed up for a library membership online (free). Once I've activated my membership (it comes through the post), I'll register for OverDrive using my library card and get access to all of the audiobooks for free.

Example links for Leeds. You'll have to find the ones for your local council.

Cheers I'll give it ago. I don't know how you "borrow" an audio book on-line as I presume you download it.?

good to see this up for newbies every so often.

@ Sambat. yes you download the books (audio/e-) for offline use. some libraries use oneclickdigital.com instead of overdrive.com. check with your local to see which is their preferred app.

cheers, op.

I guess so - and then upload it to give it back!!

No you don't upload it back, you go back to the library and read the whole book back to the librarian. If you are word perfect, it can be returned.

Of course, and I'm sure no one would be so unscrupulous as to copy the file before sending it back would they.

Tried logging in with library card, no luck.
Now waiting for the library to email me back.
Thanks, hot from me.

I haven't tried OverDrive as my library uses OneClickDigital, but I'm guessing they're pretty much the same thing. It's super handy for folks like myself who live out in the middle of nowhere.

Good reminder - heat added. My local library doesn't give me a great selection, but good for free.

You can join northern Ireland libraries with an e-membership without proof of address
