Free Barclays bPay band contactless payment wristband @ Barclays

Found 11th Jul 2014
I was looking at website of British Summer Time Hyde Park event sponsored by Barclays and found this. The application is intended for this event ending on 13 July but actually the wristband will work further beyond wherever you see the contactless symbol.

From what I understand this wristband is like prepaid contactless payment gadget where you'll need to top up before you can use it to pay for transactions. Basically like contactless card. I copy paste T&Cs below. Also you can get offers on stuff you pay using the band such as 10% off at Hotel Chocolate and 15% off at Ryman & Robert Dyas. Full offers here bpayband.co.uk/Off…spx.

And its not illegal to wear it without credit in it.

The direct link on the title brings you to the application form for BLACK bands which affiliate with BST Hyde Park event. But again, the website clearly says that you can use it beyond the event. For PINK bands affiliating with London Pride event please go here bpayband.co.uk/Pri…spx.

Make sure you open either the black or pink form at one time. Don't open both at the same time.

I just applied for one myself today so I cant give testimony.

Try open one form at one time. Happened to me the pink wouldn't load when I had the black form open.

Hi Dealfella,

I have one of these, I got it last week. Heres the overall website address https://bpayband.co.uk/default.aspx

It can be used at any contactless merchant e.g. M&S, Co-op, McDonalds, Tfl

The wristband isn't connected to your Barclaycard so could use any credit or debit card to top up. As its a contactless payment single transaction spend is limited to £20 - thanks

found it

Very cool ordered mine for bst will be much better than carrying cash. Cheers.

Ordered one. Thanks OP. Website seemed to fall down when I applied but have had an email confirmation

Yeah the site is a bit flakey but register you it does so we will await the arrival of the bands. Seems like a stellar idea. I never carry cash and often leave my wallet in my car at work. Being able to always have say £20 on it for when I'm out and about just to grab something to eat or a quick coffee is brilliant with no chance it might end up like so many notes and put through the wash ha

How long do these take to arrive? Thanks by the way OP, saw an article which mentioned bPay ages ago but couldn't find out how to get one Heat added. Can imagine that I will get a few weird stares from my people when I tap my wrist on a contactless reader, but ah well!

Luv the bit
" It's not illegal to wear it, without credit in it"

Hope that applies to my 2 empty debit cards in my wallet as well!

Hope it's not the same technology as the cards

They are probably testing it initially, if things go south.. they could just say it was a intended for the festival only :P

I got one for the concert last weekend so it'll arrive before the date of your concert which you specify when you register for it, mine literally arrived the day before. No funny looks from all stalls at the venue and can get in fast track with it. Also found that just a few places at venue didn't accept it but most did so do carry some cash in case. Very easy to set up and use but bit difficult to put on.

Agreed that it will be tested at these events and after June next year if its still in use by those that ordered then they will probably roll this out full scale. We are the Guinea pigs in this but pretty cool to use.

As for security unless you stand against the creepy guy with a backpack then all the data obtained by eavesdropping on payments at a reader would only have the card number and expiry which is not enough to make a purchase they would req CVC as well.

Also if you have verified by visa or MasterCard secure code set up then they ain't using this info to make any purchases online

Although the sort of contactless card reader built by the University of Surrey might be able to interrogate a card, any data obtained would be limited to the card number and expiry date that can be seen on the front of the card," the spokesman said.

I love the idea of using things like this and doing away with physical cash it is the future.

Wonder if London Underground will update their announcement about card clash

Oyster card in wallet
Contactless payment card also in wallet
Swiped by a hand wearing a contactless payment bracelet

Errored, tried again in IE instead of chrome and now says my email is already registered. CBA to try again, if I get something great, if not, not bothered.

That happened to me when I put my mother's maiden FULL name (two words). I changed it to only her last name (one word) then it went well

If it says error there's a chance it actually did go through, check email/text. Happened for 2 bands.

Can you only use Barclays cards to top it up?

They have already sorted this - I read before that it won't scan if you accidentally try to scan two cards at the same time and it actually happened to me when I scanned my Oyster card in my phone case whilst forgetting that I had my barclaycard sticker on my phone. The machine just beeped an error.

Ordered. THX

Got one of the paytag for mobilephone long time ago. Works great. For more info:

I wonder if you could you cut the chip out of this band and attach it to the back of your usual wristwatch or strap?
