looks genuine but caveat emptor.

terms and conditions apply - e.g. you've got to be on some kind of state benefit to apply

Aimed at homeowners / occupiers and tenants who are unable to afford the costs of efficiency improvements to their home. The aim is to help a wide section of society gain from, and enjoy, efficiency improvements and to help more people cut carbon emissions. In general homeowners / occupiers and tenants who are in receipt of benefits / state pension etc and meet the qualifying criteria

When is there going to be 'state help' for working people who are too broke as well?

I think the wording of this is a bit iffy but it does say that the eligibility criteria includes those in receipt of '...Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit with household income of less than £15860 annually.

But I think this is the Warm Front Grant in which case the criteria is as follows:

Working Tax Credit - Your income must be £15,860 or less and one of the following must apply:

-you’re responsible for a child under 16 who ordinarily lives with you (or under 20 if they’re in education or training
-you get the Disabled worker or severe disability element of Working Tax Credit
-you’re 60 or over

No need to give that company your details (unless you want to) - the government website with the details is here:

gov.uk/war…eme

so what's the catch?

You do not qualify if you have a "working central heating system" - it is aimed at people who have no central heating at all, rather than those who want to upgrade the system they currently have.

so what's the catch?

As said - your boiler has to be dead and the process to install a new one takes three months, plus the companies doing the installation have to come from an approved list, and those on the list have a reputation for inflating their prices. But most people don't get that far due to the prospect of three months without heating or hot water - basically you have to be desperate and out of alternative options to see it through.

just had mine done took less than a month. i had an old boiler (25 years + which worked fine) didnt cost me a penny and they did a great job. the deal comes from eon who have to lower their carbon emmissions or they get a massive tax bill. you dont have to be an eon customer either oh and i work 38 hours a week with two kids.

Wow this sounds so much better then British gas! They charge over £1,000 for a basic boiler!

Well i recieve child tax credit and working tax credit income is less then £16000 year, boiler doesnt really work properly and is 25+ years old, i was told just because it is a condensing boiler I won't be eligible!

depending on what boiler you get, might be more hassle than its worth.

you must have had a crap inspector ours said anything can be broken cant it????

Let me enlighten you all in this thread.
I work indirectly for this company and I know that they have helped hundreds of people upgrade their heating boilers.
Initially this is for people who have 'non condensing' boilers (no white pipe underneath the boiler) and for them to upgrade it to a new 'condensing' boiler. Also they need to be on Family Tax,Working Tax or Pension Credits and have earn under £15860.00 in the tax year. Call the number listed below to see if you qualify.
With the Northern Gas Free Boiler Scheme, providing you meet the criterias they will swap the boiler for you even if its working.
A tenant can also apply for this free boiler on behalf of landlord.
Generally this scheme is to help people who are working and not earning enough with fuel poverty.
I have had many phone calls from people in the North West area, some have been genuinly honest and deserve a free boiler and some who are after a free upgrade on their free boiler they got form Warmfront 5 years ago.
the best way to find out is google the name and model of your boiler with efficiency rating. If it is A or B rated you do not qualifiy if c to G rating you could qualify, subject to survey and production of documenent.
At present the areas covered are North West,Midlands,Scotland,Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire
