Just set this up for my mum and you can use it on BT Basic! She was getting calls claiming to be from BT. But my mum will play the game! They clearly are not from BT. Had to set this up manually could not add it online.

Got to be worth a punt as it is for free! And good if you use BT Basic

So added thus free service and
BT Call Protect - 'How to...' guide
BT Call Protect helps to prevent unwanted nuisance calls. By managing your settings, you can decide which calls you want to send to a junk voicemail.
Customers with this service can send calls to their junk voicemail by setting the preferences below:
BT Blacklist - We've identified a list of nuisance callers. Calls from these numbers will be sent to your junk voicemail. Our blacklist will significantly cut the amount of unwanted calls you get. We’ll turn it on by default when you get BT Call Protect
Personal Blacklist - You can add the last call you answered from your home phone, or any other phone number at bt.com/mybt - Inclusive extras to your own blacklist. This means that any future calls from those numbers also go to your junk voicemail. This feature will also be automatically switched on, but won’t have any numbers until you add some
Individual Call Types - You can choose to send all calls from certain categories to your junk voicemail. The three call types are:

✓ International numbers
✓ Withheld numbers
✓ Unrecognised numbers (shown as 'unavailable' on caller display or on 1471)
If you don't already have BT Call Protect you can order it online at: bt.com/cal…ect
Once you've got it, you can manage all your settings online via bt.com/myb…gt; or from your home phone by dialling 1572, which is free.

For those of you on talktalk, I believe this service is offered for free.

For those of you on talktalk, I believe this service is offered for free.

Not sure if talk talk do offer same service as cant see anything on website other than number blocking. These services offered by sky, bt and plusnet use a central managed list of most common spam numbers and auto block them for you. Sky's talk shield goes a step further by screening every call for you asking them their name and then playing the name to you at which point you can accept their call or block which is something you only used to be able to do on truecall BT dect phones.

Shame there isn’t something similar for your mobile. Sick of having people call me saying “our records indicate you’ve been in a car accident”

Agree with you 1000%.
I've signed up to them for 12 months though as they were really cheap. Will be switching away from them straight after though!
(Effective cost of £11 p/m for unlimited 52mb fibre with unlimited weekend calls) I'm hoping they don't make any profit from me at that price..
or just unplug your phone & stick to using a mobile

I register with TPS & report every single one of them. Cant say I have had a call for about 3 months now. I also block the number.
it would be just as easy for BT and the others to block these numbers for everyone but i guess they still want to make money from them for their calls
Thar

How do I set that up please?

Go into your account and it is in settings / options for phone. See:

Or try "Yes, but it was my fault, I had to take my guide dog to the vet."
Or "No accident, I had to swerve all over the road before I hit the ****."

If you have a smartphone look st the app truecaller.
Does it work with nuisance replies?

ArrrrrrrGGGHHHHhhh... I can feel the blood drain from my tapping fingers and the screen in front tells me to smash my face against it repeatedly...

It Works! It Works!
Be mindful that when you try to order, it seems to also tick BT privacy with caller display which then ties you to a new 12 month contract.
Is also blocking BT spam calls ?

"OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU USE X IN [INSERT CURRENT YEAR]"

As you well know nearly all BT Openreach installed broadband connections need a phone line. Since you're paying for it you might as well have a phone plugged in, as 0800 numbers, etc for calling companies are free.

You are aware that all 080 numbers are free from a mobile too

Free on my mobile as well.
If your under 50 you will more than likely not use a house phone & so the only ones worried about spam phone calls are those over 50........just saying (gets the fishing rod out)

When I had all of my sky, bt, xbox etc rewired into the cupboard behing my living room, I got them to move the phone socket and too.

Kept it plugged in for some reason, but never got to it in time hahaha

I don't need someone to check my personal injury history though, so i'm okay.

I've stuck with plismet and when things went wrong I have to say they've been brilliant everyone I've phoned them.No fob offs just facts when I had a fault.I know bt own them but the level of service is 2nd to none.I with t be leaving anytime soon.I use a cpr box for blocking calls and worth the original £30 I paid for it and it stores 1200 numbers.
why would you use landline in 2017?
