Found 2nd Jan 2014
Ok, so BT are about to charge for their BT answer 1571, and Free caller display with the BT privacy at home from the 4th of Jan, but if you ring up to the billing dept, and ask them to remove either of the service, and you got infinity with the hub 3 or 4, they will give you a new hub 5, with just a delivery charge of £6.95 without affecting your current contract.
It is part of the order journey. (How do i know??, cause I work for them).
Thank you.

Can you ask for the hub anyway? I have the home hub 4(I think, got infinity in may 2012, renewed in august with the BT sports thing) meant to ask about new hub in august but never did.
How long after 4th do we have? I'm not able to contact BT till after the 10th.

I did read user issues with this version of the hub cant remember what it was though.
Oh and why do we long term users have to go through a song and dance when new users get stuff for a lower price and free?

EDIT Doesn't this mean a new contract be it 12 or 18 months?

This will be a new 18-month contract, but if you've got any discounts, you can keep those.Additionally, BT Infinity customers who are either out of contract or in the last three months of their contract can recontract on any BT Infinity product on a 12-month contract to get a Hub 5.Broadband customers who are either out of contract or in the last three months of their contract can recontract on any BT broadband product on a 12-month contract to get a Hub 4.

As stated in the original post, no extension of contract. You can ring anytime, but I dont really know how long they'll keep giving these hubs away for free. Been using the hub myself for over a month, had no issues at all.
Even if you make calling plan changes, or say for instance, add a calling feature i.e. Call diversion, call waiting, three way calling etc, as part of that order journey it also gives you the free hub, also if you change your calling plan with the billing team that also gets you the new home hub 5, with no changes to the contract dates that you currently have.
Hope that helps.

They wouldnt just give you the hub, if you are in contract, they'd want 35 quid for it. But say you asked for call waiting, cost 3.50 a month, you can order that, order the free hub 5 as part of the order journey, it chooses it as default, and then cancel the call waiting (which only needs 30 days notice), and the hub 4 will easy sell on ebay for 15 quid covering the delivery and call feature charge for the month.

Cant you do this through the web site?

Thanks OP, will try it.

Nope, only available on the phone.

I had a really hard time getting an upgrade from HH3 to HH4 to cure a poor wi-fi signal. It turned out the HH4 was worse. In the end I sorted it by adding an Apple Time Capsule as the extenders didn't work.
Don't expect y much help from B T.

What about with a standard BT Broadband? Infinity hasn't arrived in my area yet!

Infinity only this.
You dont need a HH5 for standard broadband.

The HH4 was significantly slower on WiFi than the HH3 so I dread to think what the 5 will be like...

Watch BT, I added BT cloud to my account which was free, that extended my contract with them now fighting for a refund after they over charged me on top of my payment

We're just out of contract BT Infinity 1, our HH3 hub is pants, we often get buffering using lovefilm and wifi u/s but can pick up neighbors fine, go figure?
So could do with an upgrade but reluctant to commit to another 12/18 mths, are any of the "others" worth changing to or is dropping back to ADSL a step to far given the buffering on "superfast" broadband?

As BT are altering the terms of your contract you can refuse to accept them ;)and change supplier, which is exactly what we intend to do. Hurrah for freedom of choice these options do not come along that often. Now just to browse reviews and chose another supplier after all they all run on the existing BT network.

Why do they offer something to you when you remove services ?

just a follow up, just cancelled my 1571 and caller display ,offer on table was free caller display for a new 12 month line rental which I already have

Op how exactly does the conversation go with CS for them to offer this ?

Just called the billing dept, asked them to remove caller ID. I have infinity with hub 4. No hub 5 offered, even after I asked for it.

You need to go through to the billing dept, the option to send a hub 5 is set at 0.00 as default, and all you are charged is the delivery.

No router upgrade offered to me.

I just ran through upgrading my package, left it all the same, and the hub (5) was free

Rang up.... Went through a few department and ended up with Customer Options (based in England) anyway after some discussion (I had to mention that I thought BT were offering a BT home hub 5 to infinity users for just the cost of postage) I was offered a HH5 for £6.95 postage but was told if I cancel my infinity within 12 months I would have to pay £45 for the HH5. Just push the point on the HH5 and you should get this as advertised by the op. Thanks and heat added.

Called....cancelled features ..... Hub5 On way....plus saving £42 PA

No contract extension and BT TV offered free for 6 months...(declined)

Hi,
Phoned up BT this morning and got them to cancel my 1571 and caller display. No problem.
I asked about the free upgrade from HH3 to HH5. He said no problem.
The only change was from my evening and weekend call plan to weekend only call plan. Not an issue as I use my mobile for 99% of calls.
No delivery charge mentioned during conversation. All done in less than 5 minutes
Thanks for the heads up ScorpionKingv3nom.
I'll let you know how it goes.

mine was delivered yesterday. Left against my front door, and Parcelforce put a card through to say it was left against my front door when I got in.
